Defiant

The sweater, c’est finis.
Despite all the votes for the metal buttons, I defiantly chose the plastic ones.  I think they weren’t represented well in the photograph.  Plus, after I sewed on two of the metal buttons, I realized they were too heavy for the yarn and would have cause the button band to sag and stretch.  So, plastic it is.

And here is the finished sweater, modeled by the ever lovely daughter:

IMG_6603

Pattern: Golden Vintage Cardigan
Yarn: Moda Dea Bamboo Wool (a surprisingly lovely yarn that was available through some craft stores)
Needle: 4.5mm, Holz & Stein ebony circular
Mods: I used completely different shaping for the sleeve cap. I also cast on for the medium and then decreased down to the small numbers instead of working waist shaping. The sleeves are longer so I cast on fewer stitches and worked some increases. All the mods are set out on the Ravelry project page.
Verdict:  Very wearable. I like it!

Awesome! I liked the plastic ones better, too.

    Looks great! I am envious.

Beautiful – both the daughter and the sweater. I was actually going to comment and vote for the plastic, but since the voting was overwhelmingly for the plastic, did not. So here’s my late vote!

That’s our Susan. The sweater is fabulous and I hope you’ll wear it.

The sweater turned out beautifully, and the model could not be prettier!

There’s nothing wrong with soliciting opinions — and then making your own decision. After all, you’re the one who is going to be wearing the sweater!

It’s a beauty. I hadn’t thought about weight, but I thought the plastic just went better with the texture/style/feel of the garment.

Love the sweater/buttons – and I’m really jealous that your daughter will actually pose for a sweater shot. Lucky you.

I preferred the plastic ones, but didn’t vote since all of the comments were in favor of the metal ones, and I figured I must clearly be wrong.

I must laugh – I just posted on my blog a few minutes ago, and I was going to start it with “Le Citron, c’est finis”. But I went with English instead. Whew – that would have been just too weird.

Well, I didn’t like the plastic at all until I saw them in person!

Did you get the sweater back after the shoot? Or is it gone for good?

Both the sweater and the model are beautiful! Although I preferred the silver buttons, I wondered if they’d be too heavy. The sweater is certainly no less lovely with the plastic ones, and I especially like the cabled ribbing.

Great job! And you did just what I do, ask for an opinion and do whatever I want anyway. ;)

Very nice! The color is amazing, and it’s one of those sweaters that goes with just about anything. Great job.
