Mad Skillz
According to my daughter, knitted headbands are all the rage at her high school this fall. Although it’s been too warm this week to even think about wearing a handknit, I’ve been producing the aforementioned headbands at an alarming rate. Nothing to brag about, of course, because they take almost no time to knit. I can start and finish one while watching an episode of Dexter.
The chunky ribbed headband from yesterday’s post was knit from less than one skein of Elsebeth Lavold Silky Flammé and it’s my favorite so far. Verla left a comment on my Ravelry project page indicating that she was working on adding the pattern to the Ravelry database. I’ll let you know when it’s available.
I also finally made Calorimetry. With more than 9,200 projects in the Ravelry database, I must be the last knitter on earth to knit this project.
I made it slightly smaller than the pattern instructions and I used a wrap-and-turn technique when I worked the short rows. At the daughter’s behest, I added a very large crocheted flower.
Bet you didn’t know I can crochet, too.
P.S. Thanks to everyone who left birthday wishes for my mother in yesterday’s post. She may be an octogenarian, but she’s very computer literate. She even has a Facebook page! Anyway, she read all the comments and was pleased as punch.

Love the headband. Your daughter had the right idea, the flower is just the right touch!
I love calorimetry with the addition of the flower!
I love the hat!
Cute! I still haven’t made Calorimetry. But I might be wanting a headband now that I have straight hair.
That’s awesome! I simply love the flower you added. It’s a great headband and would also make an incredible hat with a vintage feel to it.
I haven’t made Calorimetry either so you’re not the last knitter on earth to knit it. But you are a great inspiration!
Very cute!
I haven’t made calorimetry either but the one you have made is beeutiful!
Guilty of having made seveeral Calorimetries, although I can only find one now. I added a request to Verla on ravelry to write up the headbnand you knit, it is just what I need!
Lovely and I bet your daughter looks great in it.
Love the flower!
Where did you find the pattern for the chunky ribbed headband? I would like to buy a copy, thanks,
Vicki
Your headband is very similar to the one I am presently knitting. Check out Drops headband: http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/86-10-headband-in-alaska
Very easy and fun to knit up. May not be as fast as it is worsted.
