Eternal Sunshine
My crocheted Red Scarf is done and, you know what? I like it! Trust me, I would never send a scarf off to OFA unless it was something I’d wear myself.
Yarn: Cascade Ecological Wool
Hook: K (6.5mm)
Pattern: Work a 155-stitch chain foundation. Working back and forth lengthwise, sc in the back loop only until it’s wide enough.
Ravelry: Link to project page.
I soaked it in some Eucalan and then blocked it out to the finished measurements of 7″ x 70″
The stitch pattern reminds me of The Corrugator scarf.
I just need to make a tag, attach a fast-food gift card, and send it on it’s way. yay!
It’s been bitterly cold here the last few days. So cold, in fact, that my daughter actually asked if I had some mittens she could wear while driving to school.
More than two years ago, I made a pair of Mitered Mittens from yarn I dyed with tumeric. In September 2007, I blogged that they just needed the ends woven in. Guess what? December 2009 and I still hadn’t woven in the ends. They’ve been sitting on a corner of my desk FOR.TWO.YEARS!
Well, the ends are woven in now. But when I turned the mittens inside out, I discovered that tumeric is not light fast.
Here’s a post showing what the yarn looked like after it was dyed.
And here’s a post with a photo of the in-progress mitten.
Here’s what the mittens look like now:
Aaah, the power of the sun.

The scarf is great and it doesn’t even look like crochet. As for the mittens, can you overdye them?
When I saw those pics go by on my Ravelry activity, I knew they looked familiar.
Looks like another dye job is needed.
Love that it is not only me who has projects that linger and linger and linger before they are completed. The red scarf is nice.
They are still a pretty color, but still disappointing.
Awesome scarf. Another dye job is in order.
I like the butter color, but they’re patchy now.
Did you let her wear them?
Scarf is great, but did you ever write a pattern for the knitted christmas ornament? I would be interested in purchasing it. Hope all is well.
I’ve been trying to come up with a quick easy knitted scarf for OFA and your post opened a little crack of light into what I think of as my brains but is really just a quagmire of mismatched patterns and yarn. With your clue (the dreaded “C” word), I realized that I have a fabulous crochet pattern that I can use — quick, easy, and looks very cool. Thanks for the whack on the side of my head!
great scarf..it looks exactly like the Corrugator..my first thoughts…
Can always dye the mittens but who cares what the color is as long as they keep your ‘digits’ warm..
I cannot believe that that is crocheting! I always think crocheting looks rather tacky in comparison to knitting, but I believe this is an exception! It’s fantastic!
I love that scarf! You should be proud to send something that pretty. Somewhere, somebody is going to be very happy.
Your Red Scarf is a success, I love the texture the crochet created.
Whoa, how’d I miss this? Oh, yes, I guess I’ve been a wee bit busy….but I think Bloglines has forsaken me again.
Anywayyyyyyy, GORGEOUS! Everyone should take crochet lessons from YOU. Most crochet that I’ve seen is downright tacky, as Madison said, but not yours, Chica! Absolutely wonderful. I got the totals today — not too bad. 2,375 scarves so far (with more to be unpacked), and over $14K in donations, between Paypal and cash and checks and gift cards.
I had an old copy of the Knit Picks catalog and it had a pattern that I think is yours — Lily of the Valley Socks. Is it? Anyway, it is no longer available. I would really like to purchase this pattern. Is that possible? Thank you for your time. Sincerely, BRIDGET
The scarf is great !
I love everything you do.
Angy (french knitter).
Love your loooooooong blocking picture, and what about that sun eh?
How often do you update this page?
