Winding Down
I know it’s only the middle of August, but summer is winding down here. Both kids have finished up at their summer jobs and my son will be leaving for college this week. I knew this weekend would be filled with shopping and frantic packing so I took advantage of some quiet time on Thursday to finish up a first-day-of-high-school sweater for my daughter.
Pattern: Hey Teach by Hélène Rush from Knitty
Yarn: Cotton-Ease (less than 3 skeins)
Ravelry: Click here for my Ravelry project page
Mods: I made the XS size and had some issues with the pattern which you can read, if you choose, on my Ravelry project page. As far as mods go, I worked the waist ribbing in a twisted rib which I think looks much better than a plain 1×1 rib. And I only put buttonholes at the top because that’s what my daughter wanted. She loves it. And she hasn’t lost it yet! *phew*
I know I promised a review of some obscure Estonian knitting books this week, but realistically the great college hand-off will probably eat up all my free time. Plus, there’s a rock star visiting Utah this week and I’m planning to meet up with her. So those reviews will have to wait.
But, I’ll be participating in a blog tour in September and I got the book yesterday. Once I sit down with it, I’ll be posting a short synopsis and then opening up the blog comments to questions for the authors. That way you can amuse yourself while I’m on the road to California. Plus, there might be something to win!

That sweater is just about as pretty as your daughter is.
That sweater came out so cute!
Love that sweater..and your daughter looks adorable! Give my regards to the Rock Star!
I’m working on my Hey Teach now. Your daughter is always beautiful and the sweater looks great on her. I’ve found that the instructions for the lace pattern once you are decreasing in pattern leave a lot to be desired. I love the end result, so I’m still slogging through.
The sweater is adorable on her! I doubt I could convince Hannah to wear something I knit for her first day of school. Hope the college trip goes smoothly.
The sweater looks great on your daughter. I love it & with all your mods it looks even better than the original design. Great work.
Ya know, you are one great knitter mama! You keep knitting for her even after she looses things! Big kudos’s to you cause I will never forget how twitchy I got when Bryce told me he left his hat on the bus.
That is one fantastic sweater and it looks great on her.
I.LOVE.IT! So cute. I just asked and Erin likes it.
Have a great week. These milestones are so great, right? Just what we raised them for. And we did that because….?
The sweater is beautiful, and it looks great on her! We just took our son to college this weekend–it seems a lot quieter around here now!
Oh goodie – are you going to give us all a chance to win that really special yarn you got?
Your daughter is beautiful, and the sweater looked really great.
Thanks a lot for the magazine, I did really like it.
Good luck with the collegeboy, strange, when did they grow up so fast, these kids of our.
That sweater is perfect on her!
The sweater is fabulous! It was great to see you for a short time yesterday and glad you can fit us in tonight.
very cute sweater!
Well, it looks great. I love the twisted rib.
How do you get it all done? I am in awe.
and very cute sweater–perfect for the first day of school.
Oh look at her! She’s so gorgeous! Well the sweater is too.
what a fabulous sweater – color and style so complimentary for your beautiful girl.
Yours looks better than the original on Knitty. Very pretty!
J’adore ce petit gilet, il est superbe et très bien porté !
I love this sweater !!
What a beautiful sweater – but not as lovely as the model! And how wonderful that she likes wearing what her mom makes.
I read your ravelry report. I want to make this for my great neice….and I’m sure I will now knit the small on a tighter gauge and take all your advice. Your sweater looks better then the original photo on the pattern. Congrats on your great work and gorgeous daughter……cg
This sweater looks great, I am surprised I missed it when I browsed through Knitty’s summer edition. Probably because yours looks so much better. Thanks for showing. And you have beautiful daughter.

This is lovely and I like that you put buttons only on the top; makes it look very current.
I’m thinking of this, but I’d do it in the round because I hate seams and maybe even top down so that I could pick up the stitches for the sleeves.
You did a gorgeous job!
What a beautiful daughter! And, the sweater looks great on her! This is a really pretty pattern.
I LOVE this sweater on your daughter…she is such a cutie!!
I will hop over to see your mods as I am working on this sweater for myself…I will not however be nearly as cute as your daughter in it…
PS…HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY!!
