Unexpected Vacation

The last few months have not been kind to me health-wise. Carpel tunnel syndrome, vicious seasonal allergies that lead to a persistent sinus infection, and a root canal that went south. Then, on Monday night I suffered a bout of BPPV. The ENT performed the Epley maneuver on me (a mind-bogglingly simple yet miraculous cure) and it alleviated the worst of the vertigo but, lets just say, my world is not quite stable yet.

If I owe you an email, it may be a while.  Sorry.

Oh, dear, can I sympathize! I had it a few years ago (didn’t get that maneuver thingy, though) and was miserable for over a week. The first two days, I could barely get out of bed! Glad you are feeling somewhat more stable…get steady soon!

Well, crud - I’m sorry to hear the universe is conspiring against you. Feel better, and know that even if you’re not knitting a lot right now, I’m planning on knitting something lovely with the sock yarn you sent me oh so long ago….

  4. Teresa C on 13 Jun 2008 at 9:34 am

    Like a whirlpool…..

I hope it ends very soon.

When life sucks, it… well, sucks. I’m sorry you’re having a rough time, and hope it gets better soon.

  7. Kristen on 13 Jun 2008 at 10:23 am

I’m sorry to hear about your health issues, but I’m really glad you mentioned the BPPV. My grandmother has been having debilitating episodes of vertigo and now we can ask her doctor if this could be the cause.

Thank you for sharing this information!

  10. chris on 13 Jun 2008 at 11:38 am

Ohhh, so sorry to hear it! My husband suffers from BBPV, and the Epley Maneuver was a lifesaver for him . . . he does it at least once a day as a preventative measure.

  11. Ronni on 13 Jun 2008 at 12:24 pm

Yikes! I hope the universe stops picking on you soon. I know what that feels like (thankfully I don’t know what BPPV feels like but what I can imagine is bad enough) and I hope things get better really soon.

  12. Anne on 13 Jun 2008 at 1:04 pm

I JUST recovered from a 7 week bout of BPPV and returned to work this week, so I can completely empathize! THe Epley Manuever did not immediately cure me and I had to go to a month’s worth of vestibular rehab to boot. Feel better soon!

  13. martha in mobile on 13 Jun 2008 at 2:31 pm

Oh, dear! I certainly hope you feel better soon.

Vertigo is miserable. I have had it since a head injury when I was a teenager. Does meclizine help you when you have the attack? Meclizine is OTC as Dramamine II but before it was released OTC it was called Antivert. It helps some people but not all. Be well!

  18. Manise on 13 Jun 2008 at 4:12 pm

  25. Cat on 13 Jun 2008 at 7:50 pm

oh I sure hope you get relief soon. Vertigo is not a fun thing to deal with. I have Meneire’s and my life is filled with vertigo. I am going to try the home ones and see if they help me.

Keep us informed on how things are going.

    Hugs!!!

  26. Jane on 13 Jun 2008 at 8:12 pm

Wow, that really is too much. Hope you feel much better now, and that good health sticks around.

I hope you feel better soon! Nothing can be quite as bad as vertigo.

  32. Lark on 14 Jun 2008 at 1:55 pm

I am sorry to hear of your health woes. It’s hard when you get something while trying to shake something else. I clearly get you on the sinus issue–two rounds of bronchitis and two sinus infections so far this year. I’m afraid to say if I am out of the woods yet–hate to jinx anything…Feel better soon!

  33. paula on 14 Jun 2008 at 2:00 pm

Oh no, hope you are better soon. I can certainly sympathize with the sinus mess. My allergies helped trigger bronchitis and DH had pneumonia. Spring is a wonderful time!

  34. Teyani on 14 Jun 2008 at 6:49 pm

hope that you are feeling MUCH better soon!

  35. Beth S. on 15 Jun 2008 at 11:33 am

  36. Wanda on 15 Jun 2008 at 3:39 pm

Darn it all, that really sucks. I hope you get to feeling better soon.

  37. caroline on 15 Jun 2008 at 7:55 pm

Susan, I want to thank you SO much for sharing your BPPV problem and the links. 2 days ago I two extreme bouts of vertigo while lying in bed!
I would have spent countless hours running from clinic to doctor if not for the serendipity of reading your blog. I had a physical therapist friend help me with the Epley motions and I’m almost over it. Bless you, chica! ain’t these internets a wunnerful thang? mwah!

  38. mary lou on 16 Jun 2008 at 5:05 am

  41. Mom2Schnauzers on 16 Jun 2008 at 6:16 pm

Thanks for sharing this. I had it (migraine related) a couple of years ago. The maneuvers helped a lot. I think it took 3 or 4 sessions (with my ENT) before it stopped completely…Way to get the word out!

  42. Kim on 17 Jun 2008 at 5:06 am

Oh dear….I used to get something like that when I was a teen and it was not fun. Many healing thoughts are headed your way!

  43. Cindy in Happy Valley on 18 Jun 2008 at 12:06 pm

Sister had it about six months ago. She was miserable for about a month. (She’s an agency nurse and had to keep working.) It finally resolved itself, but she got a kick out of telling everyone that she had rocks in her head! (A surprise to no one!) Hang in there!

  44. jane on 18 Jun 2008 at 2:26 pm

oh my gosh. I just got over that same thing the first of May. It is awful and I know exactly what you are going through. My ENT performed the Epley as well and it was a miracle. Warm thoughts are coming your way… It will get better…

  45. Jo on 19 Jun 2008 at 3:17 pm

Thank you! I didn’t know it had a name or that there was a maneuver to alieve it. I only knew what it felt like. Thanks for sharing, and I hope you will feel better soon.
