The End Of The Processes
I’m done fooling with the process of reworking the Scroll Stitch scarf. I love the stitch pattern because of the undulations it creates but I think it just can’t be worked in my handspun yarn. The yarn is too sproingy and I don’t want to ruin the clean lines of the stitch pattern by adding a border. Possibly a flatter, less elastic yarn might result in a scarf that doesn’t curl so much. Gosh, even acrylic would work better since you could block the hell out of it and never worry about it springing back to life. So the handspun is going back into the stash and the process has come to an end with no final product to show for it. Sad.
But frogging the scarf freed me to finish a baby cardi I’ve been working on. It just needs buttons and a blocking and then I’ll share all the details.

And a third process has also come to an end. My son has finally decided which college he’ll attend in the fall. Oye! What a painful, drawn-out process. Although my husband and son bore most of the organizational burden, I bore the lion’s share of the stress. It was a difficult decision for him and it came down to a choice between Macalester and Occidental. In the end, the lure of year-round golf in Southern California tipped the balance in favor of Occidental.
Can anyone say, “Los Angeles yarn shopping.”

Cute sweater! I didn’t realize from the pattern photo but that it looks a bit like the Monkey Sock pattern. Will have to dig my pattern up that I got a while ago.
Congrats on college selection. Doesn’t it feel good to have that out of the way with? My daughter just recently made her choice too.
You may not have a finished product but we all learned from what you did. The sweater is very cute and I’m glad the stress of the college selection is over!
Cute sweater!
I can only imagine how completely 100% happy you are he’s made a decision. And now you’ll have somewhere warm to visit if it snows too much here next year.
Maybe your blood pressure will go down with all of the decisions made in the last few days?
They have yarn shops in LA? Here’s ignorance from the east… is it mostly not wool? Is the wool mostly super fine and expensive? College, we have 6 more years, but I worry a bit about it now! Here’s hoping for scholarships…
The sweater is adorable! And he went with Occidental after all – what a shock!
I queued the baby sweater – too cute!
Sorry you didn’t make it out this way during the Great College Search.
Occidental is a great school – I’m sure he’ll like it; too bad I bet the yarn shopping is better in Minnesota
I’m biased anyway, a dyed in the wool Midwesterner who’s only been to California a handful of times.
You know, I went throught the same thing with some handspun this week — tried three different patterns and just couldn’t get one to work. So, it’s marinating for a while. Mazel tov on the college decision — that’s exciting!!
Los Angeles yarn shopping. ;o)
You did ask . . .
That’s a beautiful baby sweater. I can’t wait to see the details.
yay! when you come for move-in weekend, you’ll have to stay through tuesday night and come to our pasadena meet-up!
Wilde Fibre in Santa Monica, The Yarn Lady in Laguana Hills, Velona’s in Anaheim Hills…and oh so many more!!!!!
Good for him! What a relief to have it all sorted out, too.
Congrats to DS on finalizing his decision! This is a burden off your shoulders.
Maybe we can coordinate your visits to your son & my visits to my Mom & finally meet in person.
Now comes the stress of outfitting him and paying it for it. Yippee! Gillian graduates in three weeks and it seems she just made the choice of which college to go to. Time flies by.
Too bad about the scarf, I was loving the idea of it.
Too bad about the scarf. That yarn will find a good project to be at home in. And congrats to your son on choosing a college! I just had to do that, and I’ve finally got a plan for the fall. Hurrah.
Sometimes, the frogging is permanent. For awhile anyway
Congrats on the college decision. At least it’s done and made.
LA Yarn shopping, Yes. But if he would have gone to Macalaster think of all the woolen hats, mittens, scarves, and sweaters he would have needed to get through the Minnesota winters…oh, the knitting opportunities lost.
Looks like my 11th grade niece from Atlanta is strongly considering St. Olaf in Northfield, MN. I should get my needles clicking for her right now.

Oops, sorry about the double post.
Sorry about the scarf, but the baby cardi is darling!
At least make a trip to Brentwood to see Jennifer Knits. The yarns there are so very beautiful, although not nearly as unique and pretty as your own handspun!

Some projects are just not meant to be finished..but the baby cardi surely was..it’s precious!!
Congrats to your son on his big decision! Just don’t tell Ruth about passing up Macalester, ok?
Oh, that’s wonderful that your son made his decision.
I love the new baby sweater. The yarn is gorgeous. So I’ll see ya soon, right?
I have one niece at Oxy – she loves it! And her sister just picked Macalaster!!! Small world isn’t it! I’ve got knitted mitts and scarf in the queue for fall niece birthday presents – she’ll need warm stuff!!
I agree, too bad about the scarf. But what about that cowl idea? I thought that would have worked great!
I was on tour in LA for a few weeks a couple of summers ago and fell in love with A Mano Yarn Center. It’s in the part of LA that is closer to Venice Beach. (http://www.amanoyarncenter.com/)
(PS…can’t wait for your Wooly Wonka project!)
