Seeing Red
*Phew* the socks are finished and winging their way to their final destination. I can’t show them just yet, but the book will be published shortly.
As soon as the socks were off the needles, I started writing up a new lace design that was inspired by these little beauties who have come to live in my garden for the remainder of the summer:
Yum!
What do you think . . .
Nupps . . .
. . . or beads?
Decisions, decisions . . .
Right now I’m scrambling to get ready for a short vacation but I hope to have the pattern ready for purchase by next Wednesday.

Is it a scarf! I love scarves.
Oh, how pretty. Both the photos and the knitting.
I like the nupps. Beads might be nice but I think perhaps they should be slightly larger than the ones you chose. They sort of get lost.
I agree with Sarah–the nupps look better in the swatches, so you’ll need to switch to bigger beads for beading to work.
Of course the socks are finished and on their way! I never doubted it.
I also agree with Sarah.
The tomatoes look like there waiting to jump into a salad! Love the lace pattern and the color.
Love the nupps or the beads! I’m just really feeling Monday-ish!
Nupps. Harder to do, but have more impact. Unless you use larger beads, as previously pointed out.
Nupps are a PITA.
I vote for nups. I love the look, and so prefer them to beads. Thanks. Can’t wait for the pattern!
The nupps have a lovely organic look in your pattern.
I’m with Sarah, beads, but bigger beads. More tomato-ish. Sigh. Aren’t tomatoes fresh from the garden one of the best things about summer? I can almost smell them from here.
Bigger beads? Nups are way irritating.
Beads.
OH that is beautiful.
I totally love the nupps….
beads would look better if they were larger.
if you can’t get them larger, then the nubs look better.
Bigger beads!
Nice! Kind of like the nupps more, but if beads are used they should be round and a bit larger for full effect.
i vote for the beads! bigger of course….I don’t like making nupps, so my question… how do you put the beads on? with a crochet hook or do you string them? only concern… yarn breakage…
Nupps, definitely. Even though I am cursing them at the moment as I wend my slow way across the borders of Evelyn Clark’s Swallowtail Shawl, nupps are clearly the way to go.
For your Sweet 100 ‘maters, both! Size 8 beads with the alpaca blend, I think; otherwise size 6 beads. How about a beaded edging using the slip-bead method, for those without tiny crochet hooks?
Thanks for the eye candy.
I’m liking the nupps!
Nupps and tomatoes!
I like the nupps.
Definitely nupps! Over time and wear, beads will fade, scratch or break. They look pretty when new but an heirloom deserves higher quality than plastic beads! lol jmnsho
Both!
I have to agree with Beth, both! I love them both!
I never thought I’d say it, but I like the nupps better than the beads. They show up a little bit better (though that might be partly due to the yarn color).
Definitely nupps.
wah – I can’t view the photos.
I’m with the nupps crowd. The beads just aren’t significant enough to fit the rest of the pattern.
Nupps. Fiddly, but absolutely worth it. And I love how you’ve used them here–isolated instead of in the usual clusters.
Nupps. For sure. They’re so much more organic than the beads… truly tomato inspired if you ask me.
i’m going with the larger bead crowd – the nupps look great, too, though… it’s totally a personal preference – i think i would be more likely to knit this with the beads rather than the nupps. i have 3 skeins of the malibrigo lace (ice blue) — anxiously awaiting the pattern
Oh, you’re the nuppiest.
