Rhinebeck, Not
Alas, a trip to Rhinebeck wasn’t in the cards for me this year. But I had a wonderful time in NYC.
We’re lucky to have family members in Brooklyn and we stayed in their fantastic brownstone near an awesome coffee shop.
There was also an LYS nearby and I was able to snag a copy of an OOP book that I’ve been searching for. Best of all, I got it for the list price of $14.99, not the current price on Amazon. That was a nice little surprise.
I crossed off a goal on my life list when we walked across the Brooklyn Bridge into Manhattan:
And DD crossed one off, too, when she went to a Broadway show (just days before it closed) and waited at the stage door to meet the lead, who was also a reality TV show star.
And DH got his wish, . . . a real corned beef sandwich:
One of the best things we saw, though, were the Sukkahs built on the balconies of this apartment building in Williamsburg (click for big):
Adieu, NYC:

Looks like a great time was had by all. You had me for a minute, tho, with Williamsburg. I’m thinking to myself I don’t remember ANY apartment buildings there that looked like THAT. Yeah – not the same Billburg.
Sorry you didn’t make it, but given my track record this year of missing people, I probably wouldn’t have connected with you, anyway! If you love “combat shopping”, then you missed a good time.
It looks like you and family had a great time regardless of missing RB. I should do that sometime, crossing the Brooklyn Bridge. I love NYC.
I was pulling for Rhinebeck but it does look like you had a great time in New York.
So glad you had a great trip. We did miss you!
Those sukkahs are something else. When there’s a will there’s a way, I guess. Years ago I, too, walked across the Brooklyn Bridge with friends and wound up at the Long-Island Historical Society. Then to an old restaurant on the main drag for a drink. (A double-barreled name; it escapes me rightnow.) NYC and environs are endlessly interesting, I think. Glad you had such a good time on all fronts.
We missed you at Rhinebeck but your trip sounds like it was fabulous nonetheless. Next year!
It’s too bad you didn’t get to Rhinebeck, but it sounds like you had plenty of good times!
Sounds like you all had a wonderful trip back East! And some items off of life lists checked off too. Love the photo of the sukkahs!
Great pictures, thanks for sharing. See you at SnB tomorrow!
Wow – those are some amazing photos of NYC. I love the pictures of the sukkohs.
It may have been a bummer missing Rhinebeck, but it sure looks to me like that was a great trade off. Love the photos, especially getting to see the sukkahs.
Congratulations on the book! I bought it back when it WASN’T OOP and absolutely love it! What a treat!
And lovely photos – you make NYC look good…
(I don’t do cities. At. All. Ever.)
Your trip will be more memorable than Rhinebeck. (From one who lives 3000 miles away and will never be able to go but lives vicariously through others’ Rhinebeck experiences.) Thanks for your beautiful photos.
Susan, do you mind me asking you what kind of a camera you have? Your pictures are amazing. I love the quality. I’m in the market for a new one and would love to know what you use!
What a great time! I didn’t go to Rhinebeck this year either, but I didn’t get to have that much fun. I love New York.
sukkahs…is new to me. thanks for sharing that.
