Ouch!

Well, dear friends, the knitting and spinning has come to a screeching halt.

Ouch

During my unplanned hiatus, I’ll try and compose a post about my finished Scoop du Jour sweater (link is to Ravelry).  But first I have to develop a little more control over my typing. Right now I’m just trying to keep up with necessary emails. Not an easy feat with an immobilized wrist. :(

I did want to mention, however, that Kathleen Taylor, the author of the book I reviewed yesterday, is having a contest on her blog. The prize is a signed copy of the book. So hop over there and enter.

when did that happen? at least it’s not your writing hand, right?

    bummer!

  33. Jeanne on 22 Feb 2008 at 5:57 am

When I broke my wrist, I bought a magnetic bracelet. Mine was from Nikken but I’ll be you can get other brands. I still wear it all the time and even with a small bone missing in my wrist, I can still knit, spin and quilt. When I don’t wear the bracelet for a few days my wrist starts to hurt again. I know that Michaels sells magnetic beads. Maybe you could fashion your own bracelet. I hope you try it.

I thought that was you trying to pull a Kristi Yamaguchi in the parking lot! You had one of those mothers that told you that you could do anything, didn’t you? She lied. ;)

Hey! I didn’t realize this was happening!!
If it’s anything where massage will help (e.g. repetitive stress), my favorite massage therapist in the world is in south SLC.

Take care of you. Maybe this is not the time to prove that KA is full of it?

  38. Anne B. on 22 Feb 2008 at 9:13 am

I hope your wrist/hand feels much better soon. I was able to knit items with huge needles that I felted when I had the sprained wrist. What about a knitting cup, and knit left handed? That would be cool!

  45. Carolyn on 23 Feb 2008 at 11:42 am

Aaargh, that’s the “fingerless mitt” that no one wants to wear!! I’ve been knitting for years and years. After I hit the age of 50, I got carpal tunnel syndrome in both of my wrists! The good news is that it does get better but I really have to pay attention to what I am doing and for how long. Once a muscle or tendon has been injured or strained, it is very very easy to re-strain it. I had to lay off the knitting for about 8 weeks and then start again, very very slowly! I mean like 10 minutes a day for three days, then 20 minutes etc etc!

I learned the hard way that I will never be able to “knit all day” like I used to. You will figure out which needles and yarns and projects are kinder to you. Also take care of your shoulders and neck. Put the knitting down and stretch, or else the same thing could happen to other tendons. Some people have other problems that cause the tendonitis, too. I hope you are okay.

  50. Chris on 25 Feb 2008 at 7:34 am

Well. Shit and assorted other bad words. They didn’t help when I had wrist issues (the chiropractor did though) but came out of my mouth anyway. I’m guessing you might at least be thinking them. I hope it heals quite quickly!

  51. Jen on 26 Feb 2008 at 8:24 pm

Hope that is feeling better soon! :)

  52. Carol on 27 Feb 2008 at 5:50 am
