I is for . . . . . .

. . . . . . . . iPods

When my kids upgrade their iPods, I seem to become the repository of their old, discarded models. Which means I currently own a first generation Shuffle,

shuffle

an old school Classic (purchased when it was cutting edge, not classic),

classic

and a first-generation Nano:

nano

My husband has accepted only an unwanted Shuffle but constantly complains about its limited functionality.

Yesterday was my twentieth wedding anniversary and I surprised him with this . . . .

touch

By my count, this makes us a 7 iPod family. I think there’s some asexual reproduction going on with these things.

  2. margene on 16 May 2008 at 7:19 am

If you ever want to get rid of one…;-)
Happy Anniversary! Good thing you remembered.

  3. Sibylle on 16 May 2008 at 7:21 am

    Happy Anniversary from me too!

Carol this is not an iphone it’s an ipod touch as far as I can identify this.

My husband has the iphone and is all happy about it, but he refuses do hand me over his ipod nano which was bought just before the iphone, hrmpf.

  4. Sibylle on 16 May 2008 at 7:22 am

Happy Anniversary! I hear the gift for the 20th is Wollemise…

  6. Mary Lou on 16 May 2008 at 8:15 am

I have an old nano I got second hand. Maybe I should start dropping hints!

  7. Sarah HB on 16 May 2008 at 9:25 am

    Happy 20th Anniversary.

Nice iPod Touch. Don’t tempt me.

I am using an “old school” ipod photo but it still works so, no need to replace it. However, when I do, my old one will move to Hannah (my 9 yo), not the other way.

Again, hope your 20th was a great day and heres to 20 more.

    Happy Anniversary!
I just got my first iPod this year, so I can sympathize. I did get the touch and have really enjoyed all the cool features — like browsing knitting blogs from bed!

You’ve got us beat. My husband and I have 4 mp3 players between us. But none is an iPod. :)

  10. Marcia on 16 May 2008 at 9:45 am

I have an iPod classic and had a devil of a time convincing Terry that I “needed” the Touch for Christmas. Sorry now I didn’t hold out for the iPhone, I love the Touch so much. I can get email on it, browse the net, read blogs, get directions, weather, YouTube…..who needs a computer?! (I had planned to do iPod as my “I” also, but then I had that other “I” crop up just in time!)

But you know, you have 3 and they only have 1 apiece…I too, get the older equipment when my family members upgrade. The old Shuffle is my mp3 player in the car. However, I did get a GPS unit (that includes mp3 capability) for Christmas, and it wasn’t a hand-me-down.
    Happy Anniversary!

Sweet! We’ve got 2 videos and a 3Gen, plus DH has his iPhone. You can get speaker/microphone attachments and listen to books on tape. Or record lectures. Happy Anniversary, and many more years of happiness ahead.

  13. Manise on 16 May 2008 at 12:47 pm

Happy Anniversary! I too seem to be the repository of everyone’s old models of techy things.

  14. Angie on 16 May 2008 at 1:34 pm

There are only 2 of us currently using ipods, yet we currently have 4 units soon to purchase a shuffle for my DD7 for her birthday in August…

  15. Lisa on 16 May 2008 at 1:50 pm

You have me beat. I lead a low-tech life. No cell phone, home internet, mp3s or ipods in my house.

  16. Melissa on 16 May 2008 at 3:12 pm

I had to laugh - I have both the original shuffle and the classic as well. They work great for me!

  17. TheAmpuT on 16 May 2008 at 5:24 pm

    Happy Anniversary!

  18. Jane on 16 May 2008 at 6:53 pm

I have a first generation Nano, but am coveting my husbands new one. He let me watch a movie on it, and it was surprisingly good. But since all I have on my Nano is books, I really don’t need anything that fancy. And really, watching movies on my iPhone is SO much better anyway. hee hee

  19. Rachel on 16 May 2008 at 7:35 pm

    Awww 20 years–fantastic!

Ipods are on the loose at my house too. I think we have 7 for the 4 of us too. Ridiculous.

  20. Erica on 16 May 2008 at 9:36 pm

That’s a lot of iPods! I think it’s funny that some of your second-hand iPods are newer than my first-hand one! My husband has been trying to convince me that I “need” a touch, but I’ve managed to resist thus far. They are /so/ pretty, though, and the wireless /is/ nice…
Hope your husband was thrilled with his new toy!

  21. Laurie on 17 May 2008 at 4:46 am

Very funny! I’m sure Apple doesn’t know about this. They have the devices wired so that when different nervous system signals are sensed from different hands, the device DIES. You have subverted their plot.

Congratulations on the 20! Wonderful achievement. You are very very good to your guy.

  22. Dorothy on 17 May 2008 at 6:59 am

Happy Anniversary to you! I, too seem to attract out-of-date electronics. Both my son and his wife have iPhones and love them. Even their 3 year old knows how to operate it to get to the photos!

  23. Teresa C on 17 May 2008 at 7:48 am

Congratulations! Pete and I celebrate 21 in a few weeks. I don’t think we will be surprising one or the other with an iTouch, although I have been sorely tempted to get one. I have a 2nd gen Nano and cannot live without it. When my last one died, I was in the apple store the same day.

  24. Wanda on 17 May 2008 at 8:57 am

    Happy 20th!

That is pretty funny about the iPods. We bought the first one, a Nano, for my stepson, but then I went all out and got a iPod Video for myself. Eventually we will get one for the bf.

  25. lisa on 17 May 2008 at 9:14 am

Yeah, happy anniversary! DH and DS both have an ipod, I’m the odd one out on this issue! Those are lovely angora mitts!!!!

  26. Batty on 18 May 2008 at 10:14 am

    Happy Anniversary!

Having more than one sounds useful. I’m leaving for Halifax tomorrow and mine needs recharging. Having only one means I don’t have music to listen to on the plane if I don’t recharge. You can always have one of 6 or so ready to go.

  27. Beth S. on 19 May 2008 at 9:22 am

Ha ha ha ha! :-) Yep, they’re like coat hangers. They multiply behind your back. ;-)

My husband inherited my old 3G iPod, and within the week he had replaced the battery with one of those do-it-yourself kits. It works brilliantly now, unlike the days when I had to charge it every single night if I wanted it to play for more than five minutes the next morning…

  28. Cheryl S. on 20 May 2008 at 8:12 am

I guess your husband doesn’t have to worry about limited functionality now, does he? Nice gift! Our family is still sans-iPods. Maybe it should stay that way - it appears to be an addiction.

  29. Norma on 21 May 2008 at 3:26 am

Nice gift! I’m awaiting the day, which I feel creeping up on me, that I’m going to have to move up in the phone department to a PDA. I have Abigail’s hand-me-down mini iPod. (I think that’s what it is…. It doesn’t look like any of the ones in your photo. It was not instant love, but I’ve learned to love it.

  30. Mel on 21 May 2008 at 11:24 am

I am a big proponent of getting rid of old things.

You could try to sell the old iPods for a few bucks.

Apple should also take them as part of their e-waste recycling program. Here is the site for their iPod and cell phone recycling program:
