C is for . . . .
Cursed Cotton:
When Laurie gave me 5 skeins of Cotton Fleece two years ago (or was it three?), I immediately set out to find the perfect pattern. I eventually settled on a cardigan from the June 2006 issue of Creative Knitting.

Although the only photo that still exists of this sweater shows only the back, I knit the entire sweater, less about 4 inches on the second sleeve, before I frogged it. I just stopped feeling the love for the garter ridges and the modified drop shoulders. The yarn went back into the stash until last year when I cast on for the Laurent sweater from Rowan Vintage Knits.
No photos exist of that attempt although I can report that Cotton Fleece stands up really well to repeated frogging.
I recently decided to have another go at knitting up the cursed cotton yarn:
Will the third time be the charm?
Your guess is as good as mine.

OOOO I LOVE the cable on the top. It looks so pretty. I hope you stick it out. I think this will look really nice.
So far, so good! I had no idea you tried something between the M-man sweater and this one.
Hi–
I’m a regular reader but seldom-seen commenter, and I just wanted to tell you to hang in there, because your result will be worth it. One of my favorite sweaters was knit from Cotton Fleece at least ten years ago, and it still looks great. Be glad you’ve insisted on the perfect pattern–because you’ll be wearing it a long time!
This project looks great!
I made my “Too Long Basalt” from Cotton Fleece and loved knitting with CF. You keep going back to it, so you must not dislike the yarn – right?
It certainly looks like a winner! Great cable detail.
Hmmm, and after our SnB conversation last night re our new fave Ravelry group, I thought “C” was for something else…
Looks perfect, but, if it doesn’t work out, you may want to give Rusted Root a try – looks great in Cotton Fleece. Can’t wait to see it finished!
I think third time will be the charm! The cable looks great in that yarn.
Is that the Gathered Pullover from Interweave KNits Winter ’07? Yours is waaaaay prettier than mine so far. I may have to frog the variegated yarn I’m using and make it into a cardigan.
The C is for Cursed Cotton Charm. I love it so far.
Did you get the photos I sent? Are you stunned into silence?
What a great yarn for that one! I’m going to stick to my planned turquoise. If I ever get around to it…
So was it the pattern or the yarn that you weren’t loving?
*sigh* Well, JUST last night I ordered several skeins of this yarn to make a little summer top (http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/juliet-2). I figured if I had leftovers, I would make the “Saturday Market Bag” by Jodie, via MagKnits.
I have only knit with cotton once. It was recycled, and I couldn’t stand working with it. I am hoping I enjoy this more, since this is a blend with wool in it, but now you have me nervous! LOL
Goodluck, and yes…third time is often the charm!
It’s looking great! I’m a frogger too — better than ending up with a garmet you don’t like/wear.
Oh yeah – definitely third time. Forge ahead. All looks good.
This 3rd try is lovely!
I have some cotton yarn that I have frogged three times now. Although it’s not the same yarn you have someday I will find the right pattern for it. Your sweater looks like it will be lovely…ciao
I did manage to complete my Green Gables in that yarn but agree with you about cotton being cursed. We just don’t get along unless it’s thoroughly blended with something else–preferably wool!
Good luck, though, because that sweater is looking great.
Dang, you’ve really gone rounds with this yarn. At least the pattern is looking good the third go round. Hopefully you’ll like this one more.
Ok, I *really* like that fabulous cable – I hope it works out! It really looks like it will be a lovely knit.
okay, I don’t even remember owning that yarn. That’s why my stash continues to grow.
I love what you’ve done with it!
It looks like we have a winner! Isn’t it fun reflecting on the life stories of yarn? I feel as if some of my skeins must be having an identity crisis by now…
3rd Time’s always the charm! That pattern will great in that color!
I love the knotwork cabling! Beautiful!
I love the cables, and yes…third time will be a charm. I’ll be waiting to see the finished sweater.
Do you mind if I add you to my favorites on my blog? I took a sock class from you (long-a-go) at the Wool Cabin. I found your blog again and would like to add to mying.
It had better be, after all that effort.
Seriously though, the new pullover looks fantastic! Really good definition on that cable.
your third go looks great so far. and i do love that color.
I’m wearing the gathered pullover as I type this. My new favorite, it’s red for Valentine’s
Happy knitting!
Ohhh, I love it! It looks like it will turn out great!
I certainly hope the third time’s the charm – it’s looking lovely!
Oooh, so cute! I do like that sweater and cotton fleece is a very good match for the pattern. I hope you finish it so I can copy…
Ooohh! I love Cotton Fleece yarn and I love the cables. Third time is a charm.
I do like that diving into the depths of the skein photo. And perhaps the stitch definition in the cables will seduce you onwards to a FO.
Looks good so far, let us know how it fits. I have some Cotton Fleece and really like that sweater. Oh, the possibilities!
I have similar feelings about cotton, and I had similar problems with Cotton Fleece. A basically stockinette sweater was a stretchy disaster. I reknit it in a cable pattern, and the cables give it shape. This is, however, a UFO because I didn’t modify the sleeves correctly in adapting the pattern (they’re too wide). It is a simple fix, and I hope to do it this summer when it is too hot to touch wool. I’d definitely use Cotton Fleece again, but only with all-over cables. Your WIP is looking very good.
It looks good so far. I hope this one makes it to the finish line.
Love the yarn and the color. The experience reminds me of my DB Cotton Silk Aran voyage. Also very tough. Looking great, as per usual!
