Weekend Projects
I’ve had my eye on the One Skein Wonders book for a few weeks so I jumped at the chance to purchase it from Lu when she listed a copy on the DeStash blog.
It arrived about an hour ago and I’ve already cast on the first project.
At this point, all I can say is that nylon yarn and dry skin make for unenjoyable knitting.
The book, however, is very enjoyable. Although the patterns are very basic and some are are somewhat redundant, it’s nice to have a cache of quick, easy-to-knit gifts all in one place. I would describe the book as a compendium of shop patterns, and I love shop patterns.
As I press on with my nylon novelty yarn project, I’ll be thinking about knitting something with these:
Did you get your set yet??

I have One Skein Wonders – perfect for a quick gift and charity project, isn’t it?
I’m upset that the “lace” needles aren’t available in 2mm/0 – so useful for socks!
I love that book! I made several things out of it for Christmas presents. It’s a great resource when you need to come up with something quick.
I’m jealous of your Addi Turbo Lace needles! I want some!!! Do let us know how you like working with them. I haven’t seen them in my LYS yet (but then I haven’t been there in a while as I have plenty of yarn and projects in the works already).
DON’T TEMPT ME!
I knit enough lace that I am sorely tempted to purchase a set or 6!
I *did* get a pair of them at Stitches West, but I’m not thrilled with the copper smell they give off. Maybe I just have a sensitive nose.
I haven’t yet, but I’m looking forward to giving them a try!!
I’m anxiously waiting for a chance to purchase some Addi lace needles…
What? The lace needles aren’t available in the smaller sizes for socks?? I was just using my “old” Addi turbos for a pair of socks thinking “can’t wait to get some of the new pointier ones to knit socks with!” UGH!
They really do look like the Cadillac of knitting needles though, with the brass and pink cord and all that.
I haven’t ordered the new Addis yet. How do you like them?
Not to change the subject or anything, but how is that new spinning wheel?! Have you tried spinning laceweight on the Sonata? It’s something else!
Oooh – you’ll have to give a serious review of those lace needles.
I’ve been going to bed with lotion slathered hands in white gloves…it helps!
I like One-Skein; patterns are grouped by yarn weight and novelty. You do have to pay attention to the skein size, because yardage in 1 skein varies with brands etc.
On my needles: the ruffled neckwarmer in a blue Cashmerino. Very pretty, and easy to remember. But the pattern really should start at the buttonhole end, so you don’t have to worry about running short of yarn.
I too have the One Skein Wonders. I ablsolutely love it. Like others have said it is great for a last minute gift or a charity event.
yeah, to your description of One Skein Wonders. sounds like the patterns i get from Susan P Lawrence.
I have never heard of one skein wonders until now… although I don’t knit lace, I have attempted socks… sounds like I should get some?
Love my new Addi Turbo Lace needles. I don’t love the brass smell, either, but I’m finding the more I knit with them the less they smell ‘brassy’. Dunno …
So what are you making with the ribbon yarn? I’ve got a little of that lying around, and have been eyeing the One Skein Wonders book, too.
It’s good to see that Addi has responded to the Knit Picks foray into nickel-plated needles. I’ll have to give them a try sometime.
OOOOH! Addi Lace! I gave my own review of various needles for lace a while back on my blog, and settled for the Bryspun Bryflex Circs (best points). But this may be the next Lace Idol! Let us know what you think.
No Fair! You didn’t post where you found your Addi Turbo Lace needles! I NEEEEEEED them! LOL
This is a fun book, full of quick gift ideas… I will go a long time before tapping it out completely.
Thank you Susan, now I am reminded again, that I can not order the needles because littleknits wants me to order at least for 25 Dollars and there is nothing else I want to have right now. Grmpf. Tell me if it is worth ordering them, will you?
The book likes fun.
I got my needles Monday or Tuesday and ordered another pair and got them today! Can’t wait to start my socks. I tried doing the magic loop by the cable really wasn’t long enough for comfort. Nice needles though.
I really like that book – I’ve gazed longingly at it several times. My secret pal knit me a really nice bag from it. What is that you are knitting?
Destash strikes again! Great find.
I’m shying away from yarns that are hard on my hands these days.
Another reason to love knitting socks!
i havent knit with the new addis, but i’m curious to see how they stand up…
i was wondering if you know of any one whos knit the forest canopy in lace weight? i bought 600 yards of silk tussah lace weight at stitches and wanted to do a lace project with it. besides being my fave, forest canopy is one of those patterns that can take on a small amount of yarn…what do you think?
