Third & Final Clue
No sense dragging this out any longer. Here’s your third and final clue to help you guess the name of the sock pattern. Someone should get it pretty quickly now.
The last clue was visual, this one is verbal. Ready?
“If you made 3 1/2 pairs of socks from the seriatim sock pattern, you’d have seven soles.”
Easy peasy!
After I reveal the name, I’ll take Kathleen and Christine up on their offers to help me set up a Flickr group so you can post photos of your socks.
While I’ve got you here, I thought I’d also disclose what I made from my skeins of Caron Felt It yarn:

Yup, it’s a mini Nantasket Basket. Actually, I followed the pattern exactly as written; I just used a single strand of yarn instead of a double strand.
The yarn was . . . okay. Nothing special, but nothing I would avoid either. It felted nicely and fairly quickly considering the basket was not very large. Here are the “before” and “after” photos for scale.

My washer was happy, too, since the yarn did not throw off very much fiber. So, I’d say it’s a good choice for felted projects. Just don’t tug on it too hard; it’s a loosely spun, single ply yarn and it’ll break if you’re rough with it. Also, given that it is variegated, it’s not a good choice for a felted pattern that requires a double strand of yarn. I think the colors would just blend into each other and look muddy.
This basket is destined for the And Justice For All silent auction.
Laurie generously donated several bars of Blessed Juno soap to go inside. Let’s hope someone bids on it.

That yarn is interesting - I’m finally getting around to knitting my Patons SWS yarn into a basket to be felted.
I finished my socks last night!! It my first pair of socks EVER! I’m fairly new to knitting…mostly hats and a simple sweater. These socks were SO QUICK. I used Cascade 220 Superwash in Moss Green and size #6 needles. I started Sunday afternoon and finished Tuesday night late. I am quite pleased with them…and since the weather is back to being cold and rainy in western Oregon, THEY FEEL GREAT! Thanks for such a great pattern. I don’t have a blog or website to post photos so I will send an e-mail with the photos that I took.
OK, my guess for the sock name is
“Slitherin’ Socks”.
Very cute basket, by the way.
Even with clues, I’m clueless!
When you are ready for the flickr group, let me know - it’s easier and peasier than guessing your pattern’s name!
Dang, I’m not worthy. I mean, I like Harry Potter and all, but I still don’t get it… Oh well! 1.5 socks done, I love this pattern!
The basket is charming! I love it–it’s so cute with the soaps.
I have NO IDEA what you’re naming your socks. Teri?
I haven’t made the socks yet but I’m hoping to if I ever finish everything else on my list. (I’m a slow knitter.)
My guess is ‘Horcrux’.
Oh no, not Horcrux socks! They have complete soles, not split into pieces, hidden, and guarded by inferi. I guess the pattern was split into pieces, but I’m thankful I didn’t have to drink poisonous green potion and wither & blacken my left hand to knit them. Thank you for this great pattern and great fun!
The only name I can think of is “Seven-Step Socks” (I counted each segment of the socks.) There is a photo of my finished socks on my blog but I plan to knit them again in both red and blue. Thanks again for the pattern and the fun!
Lord Voldemort socks? Half-Blood Prince socks?
The basket is lovely!! No more guesses here..since I’m not HP smart!! But I am working on the mates to pair 2 and 3~~thanks
Almost finished with both socks in RED Paton Classic Wool Merino. After the gusset step, I put them both on the same circular needle so I wouldn’t make one longer than the other. Now when I decide how long to make the foot . . .
No guessing for me, since I was there when the socks were christened.
i’ll go with “horcrux” too but it is such a creepy name for such a cute sock!
How about The Dealthy Hallows socks in honor of the the last and final book arriving in Bookstores in July.
The basket is really cute! I have an unfinished bag and you have just given me the inspiration to get it out and finish it soon and felt it so I can actually use it. I can’t imagine the name of your sock but with all the Harry Potter like clues and now you speak of seven soles all I can guess is with Harry Potter 7 coming out soon that maybe the name of the sock is after Harry Potter seventh book. Is the name of the sock The Deathly Hallows Sock? though that seems a dark and dreary name for such a beautiful sock.
hehehe; i’m calling the pair i made ’socks for jenny’s laying-in’ heheeh
and i’m hoping my red wool arrives today!
thanks again and again for teaching.
book ? you’re gonna book sometime soon? self publish? it’s as easy as having a printer and a computer, which you do and things to teach , which you do and folks who would buy a copy, which you do…ahem. sorry; i sound like a kid with the “i wants”
I don’t want to take a guess, but I definitely want to be a part of the Flickr group.
=:8
With all of these fans here, I hate to admit it, but I’m not into HP… so I have no clue.
One sock finally done and blocking. I have the cuff done on the second.
Hmmm… I’d call them Seven Step Magic Socks… am I close?
I think I recall reading somewhere that Dumbledore loved socks. I think they might be Dumbledore’s Socks.
Megan
Hmmm. Some people are smarter than me. I don’t think I could guess the sock name on my own.
I love how you are like “okay, this last clue is easy…everyone will be able to guess the sock name NOW.”
Um…not everyone. Am I dumb?
How ’bout……Seven Soles???
My guess would be Seriatim.
You seriously have me lost with the sock name, but they are so beautiful they are on my short list of things to knit!
Let me know about the Flickr group! Happy to help set you up! By the way, I’m lining up future podcasts - would you be interested in doing an interview over Skype? *grin*
