The Toe
We’re getting close to the end. Today I’m posting instructions for the toe. But don’t finish it off just yet because tomorrow I’ll explain my fool-proof method for Kitchenering sock toes. How do I know it’s fool-proof? Because it’s demonstrated by She-Who-Could-Not-Kitchener-But-Now-Can.
Toe:
Round 1:
Ndl 1 & Ndl 3: Knit to the last 3 sts, k2tog, k1.
Ndl 2 & Ndl 4: K1, ssk, knit to the end of the ndl.
Round 2:
Knit all sts on all ndls.
Repeat these two rounds until 24 sts remain.
Repeat Round 1 until 12 sts remain.
Knit the sts from Ndl 1 onto Ndl 4. Transfer the sts from Ndl 3 to Ndl 2. You should have 6 sts on each needle. Break the yarn, leaving an 18-inch tail.
When you’re finished, the SIP should look like this:
Tomorrow, we Kitchener.
Beginning next week, I thought I’d invite everyone to guess the name of the sock pattern. If no one guesses by the end of each day, I’ll post a new clue the next morning. If and when someone successfully guesses the name, I’ll post a one-page PDF of the whole pattern.
So put your thinking caps on.
(P.S. There’s actually a clue in this post!)

Well, I’m a gambler, so I guess that you will call the pattern “Kitchener socks of Susan”.
*laughing*
I bet they are called “Margene’s Socks”…just a thought!!:)
I think they are called Foolproof as someone already guessed Margene.
Yeah, I was going for Margene’s socks too…
i reeally thought these were going to be my socks, but now that i think of it some more i believe they should go to my daughter to wear in the hospital when she delivers my grandaughter , sometime in the first week of april.
what that really means is that i’ve ordered worsted weight wool in RED, for myself.
Fool-Proof socks.
If Margene can Kitchener, then I can too! (Am a closet Kitchener-avoider, prefer to turn inside out and 3-needle bind off). I’m caught up, and am waiting with baited breath. Thanks for the fun mystery sock, Susan.
GREAT banner!!! It all looks like it belongs together now.
How about Wandering Lace Socks?
How about “Nowcan” socks?
Susan’s Foolproof Socks?
How about “ligtening bolt”? Probably not – I never win ANTHING!! But it’s fun to play along…
k
My guess would be Susan’s “Get a Clue” socks. Love the socks btw, I have commited myself to knitting celibacy so that I can get my cardigan finished before summer starts, so no socks for me just yet.
Close to the end? Or Now She Can? I’d definately have gone with Foolproof, but I was too slow with the comments… I consider myself Kitchener-impaired, so I’m quite looking forward to tomorrow!
Okay, I’ll venture a guess. Are they Zeneedle Socks?
How about Zeneedle ZigZag? Do I get to guess again tomorrow if nobody got it right? I have some Cascade 220 superwash that I want to use, but the yardage might be a bit short (230 yd.)… I have smaller feet – what do you think?
I’m going to guess “Zen” for the sock name. I must get busy and get to the toe already.
Kitchener-a-go-go???
I’m jumping on the “Fool-proof Socks” bandwagon.
I see that my guess has already been posted – Fool-Proof Socks. What a fun and fast knit. Thanks, Susan!
I’m going to go with Foolproof Socks. As good a title as any considering all the detailed instructions that went into them. Cool pattern by the way!
Susan’s Foolproof Kitchener Socks!
Kitchener maven fool proof socks…. !!???
A Sock in Progress!
I have loved this knit-along! This is a great pattern; one that I’m sure I’ll make many times. The hardest part has been waiting for the next installment. I’ve worked both socks, slipping them on and off of holders while I used my lone set of #5s. It’s taking lots of will power not to finish them today.
Thank you, Susan!
Susan’s Mystery Socks
i can guess all day long!!!
LOL
What a great-looking sock! I wish I’d discovered this in time to knitalong, but as it is, I’ll start sock 1 tonight
How come everyone is guessing when you said you wanted guesses next week?
I can Kitchener, but I have to look it up each time and graft in front of the computer. Of course the screensaver always kicks in so I have to stop every couple stitches to jiggle the mouse. Will tomorrow’s lesson allow me to graft without sitting at the internet? Looking forward to it.
You fixed the background! Now it doesn’t load that dark green stuff before the banner. Looks very nice.
I just might start these socks, myself.
Oh! Oh! I know! I’m just sure of it. I even just posted about it with a photo of my socks. They’re the “I Popped My Kitchener Cherry” socks. Right? I win, I win, I win!!!!
I’m up to the kitchener on one sock and have 1.5 inches and the toe on the other. Good news – I think I’ll have enough yarn!
Saving my guess until Monday, like a good do-bee!
I love these socks. I will be making them soon, just no time right now. I think the name has to do with Harry Potter and his Lightening Bolts. So, Harry’s Lightening Bolts.
I’m thinking they must be Fool-Proof Socks.
How about “Seriatim” for the name of these socks.
My guess is for “Z inspired Foolproof”.
I cant wait to use your tips for Kitchenering. I am almost to that point on this pair I am working on and I be using your site to get it right…hopefully
I’d guess something along the lines of Kitchener Witchery?
You are too clever, aren’t you?
