The Gusset

It sounds like several people are knitting along as the pattern is being posted. Fun! Check the comments from last Friday and follow the links to see all the socks. But don’t linger too long reading knitting blogs, you have a gusset to knit!

Gusset:
Divide the 8 heel sts evenly onto 2 dpns. Remove the instep sts from the waste yarn and place them on 2 dpns.

Ndl 1: Pick up and knit 10 sts from the side of the heel flap.
Ndls 2 & 3: Work sts in established rib pattern.
Ndl 4: Pick up and knit 10 sts from the side of the heel flap and knit 4 heel sts.

You are now knitting in the round again.

Gusset Decreases:

Round 1:
Ndl 1: Knit to the last 3 sts, k2tog, k1.
Ndl 2 & Ndl 3: Work sts in established rib pattern.
Ndl 4: K1, ssk, knit to the end of the ndl.
Round 2:
Ndl 1 & Ndl 4: Knit all sts.
Ndl 2 & Ndl 3: Work sts in established rib pattern.

Repeat these two rnds until you have decreased back to 40 sts.

Your SIP should look like this:

Glad to see the posting so early – for us early birds!!

You did not update on bloglines, however. I just checked out of hopefulness. (Just an FYI)

Am enjoying the pattern – thanks again!

While waiting for the gusset to be posted I cast on and knit the second sock up to this point. And who thought sock knitting couldn’t be any more fun?

I casted on both socks so that I would not get one sock-itis and I am having a blast with doing the pattern like this. It motivates me to get it to a certain point so I can move along when the next step is posted. All of my knitting should be done this way, I’d get more finished ;) Thanks for the pattern!

I found your blog today, saw this great sock with the very nice twist on the cuff and had to start right away. I’m now knitting the 15 first rounds of the cuff. A perfect pattern for some old, thick yarn from my stuff… Thank you!

Your post DID come through bloglines for me even though my friend Kathy didn’t see it there. Strange! I cannot wait to see the next segment.

Done for today with both my socks…. have to wait again! Will it be something else after these socks?

Well – I’m all caught up and loving these socks! There is something so compelling about getting the pattern in these little installments! Thanks for the fun Susan!

I’m up to speed also..have 2 separate yarns going..it’s fun doing in the installments and quite a learning experience for a new sock knitter, as myself.

Hi, found your blog the other day and started knitting the socks Sunday night whilst reading emails. Am really enjoying knitting them and appreciate your ‘teaching’ as we go along. :o )
