That Time Again

My kids went back to school today and things will be in a constant state of chaos until we can all sync our schedules and get after-school activities worked out. Translated, that means I haven’t knit a whole lot in the last few days. I did, however, draw Kat’s name as the winner of the blog contest I had last week. Congrats, Kat, and have fun knitting the Spring Things Shawl.

I also finally blocked a certain sweater that I finished knitting quite a while ago.

Look familiar?

Clasp

Until I have the time to compose a post with proper photos and a description of the mods I made to the pattern, I’ll entertain you with another contest.

Both my kids (teenagers) are involved in fall activities at school. If you guess what those activities are, you can win some yummy Wasatch Watercolors roving dyed by Judy Jackson, a local fiber artist. Don’t spin? Don’t worry, I’ll find some other Utah goodie to send you.

Leave your guess in the comments and I’ll draw a winner Wednesday night.

Oh, and here are the visual aids to help you:

  4. Kate on 27 Aug 2007 at 7:18 pm

    Great closure on the sweater!

  8. Sarah HB on 27 Aug 2007 at 7:24 pm

    Cheer & Golf…um, don’t spin.

Hope it is a good year and love the Norwegian-ske closures on the sweater.

  9. Sue on 27 Aug 2007 at 7:24 pm

Well, I would have to say cheerleading and golf, too, but I didn’t read the previous comments before I came up with my guess, honest!

  10. Cynthia on 27 Aug 2007 at 7:24 pm

oooh, I want to go with cheerleading and golf, too!

I just started your Forest Canopy Shawl and I love it. Thanks for your help with the download!

  11. Telmah on 27 Aug 2007 at 7:25 pm

Cheerleading and golf– the golf one was a little trickier! I had a hunch it was golf– we had a golf team at my high school– but I googled “Nike SQ” just to be sure.. that’s a line of golf clubs! Best of luck with back to school chaos!

  12. Connie on 27 Aug 2007 at 7:27 pm

    Golf & Cheerleading!!!

  13. Gladys on 27 Aug 2007 at 7:35 pm

I saw the photos and thought cheerleading and golf — and then I saw that everyone else was guessing the same thing! Looking forward to seeing more sweater photos!

  14. Stacey on 27 Aug 2007 at 7:36 pm

I’m going to agree! Cheerleading and golf!

Although you could be being sneaky and your daughter could be a football player and not a cheerleader! ;) just kidding!

  15. Danielle on 27 Aug 2007 at 7:38 pm

Cheerleading and golf? I see I’m not the first to guess this :)

  16. Meadow on 27 Aug 2007 at 8:10 pm

I’m guessing Cheerleading and Golf as well :) .

Have fun adjusting, it takes awhile doesn’t it? ;) .

  17. DebbieB on 27 Aug 2007 at 8:17 pm

    Cheer and golfleading! ;-)

    Or cheerleading and golf…

Hang in there, you’ll get the schedules ironed out soon.

  18. Jane on 27 Aug 2007 at 8:18 pm

Just have to add - cheerleading and golf. Can’t wait to see the sweater!

  19. Nancy J on 27 Aug 2007 at 8:19 pm

    Volleyball and track….

  20. Sandy on 27 Aug 2007 at 8:27 pm

It looks like cheerleading and golf. That will keep all of you busy.

  21. Kim on 27 Aug 2007 at 8:32 pm

    Pick me! Pick me! :D

Could it be…cheerleading and golf? And why aren’t those clubs covered with handknit club covers, hmmmmm??

  22. Betsy on 27 Aug 2007 at 8:38 pm

    Girls soccer.
    Boys golf.

  23. Karen on 27 Aug 2007 at 8:45 pm

Well, I can hope that it’s your daughter and not your son that wears the cheerleading skirt, although I have a brother-in-law who you wouldn’t want to meet in a dark alley who was a male cheerleader in high school… and he also played rugby and called football players wimps because they wore pads. He’s a complex guy, what can I say… Golf for your son. :) Good luck with the re-entry to the school year.

  24. Ingrid on 27 Aug 2007 at 8:56 pm

I’m gonna take a wild guess and say…cheerleading and golf!

  25. Manise on 27 Aug 2007 at 9:16 pm

I’ll be different and say tennis and golf.

  26. bellamoden on 27 Aug 2007 at 9:17 pm

    Cheerleading and golf!

I really like your clasp, I hope you’ll blog where you found it.

  27. Teresa C on 27 Aug 2007 at 9:28 pm

Ummmmm, let me think…… golf and cheerleading. (I was actually leaning toward marching band and soccer.)

  28. Andrea on 27 Aug 2007 at 9:43 pm

Cheerleading and Golf! Good luck to them both, and don’t worry the first couple of weeks of the new school year are always a little stressful, you’ll get back in the hang of things.

  29. Cindy in Oregon on 27 Aug 2007 at 9:55 pm

I have an original answer. . .Cheer and Golf!

Oh, wait, maybe that’s not so original after all. :)

  30. Leah on 27 Aug 2007 at 9:57 pm

    cheerleading and golf :)

  31. Nancy on 27 Aug 2007 at 10:15 pm

I’ll guess cheerleading and golf, along with most other commenters! I don’t spin, but I know you have lots of yarn (!).

  32. Jess on 27 Aug 2007 at 10:24 pm

Well, yeah… cheerleading and golf. I’ve got a varsity cheerleader living across the street from me. I knew it was time for school when I saw the uniform come out again!

  33. Rebecca A. on 27 Aug 2007 at 10:51 pm

It looks like cheerleading and golf to me!

  34. Sissel on 27 Aug 2007 at 11:09 pm

My daughter of eight says the boy is doing Golf, ’cause she knows since she’s a golfer too and the girl(I hope) is a cheerleader, because she knows since she’s also gonna be one. I was thinking of tennis myself, but the little one has voted cheerleading. She’s probably right.

  35. Vicki on 27 Aug 2007 at 11:23 pm

    Well… I’ll say…. cheerleading…. and golf??

    lol

  36. Heather on 28 Aug 2007 at 12:21 am

I will have to say golf and tennis…only because you said “fall activities” and cheerleading is usually year round. Am I right???

  37. liz on 28 Aug 2007 at 12:47 am

Golf and cheerleading. Bean went off to kindergarten today. It’s going to take me a while to get used to the quiet.

  38. Lynne on 28 Aug 2007 at 2:13 am

I am guesing Cheerleading and Golf! Love your clasp as well.

  39. Monika on 28 Aug 2007 at 2:43 am

Golf was easy, but cheerleading was not first on my mind. I thought tennis first, but since all the others go with cheerleading, so do I. ;o)

  40. Micki on 28 Aug 2007 at 2:49 am

    Yeah, cheerleading and golf.

Can’t wait to see the full sweater!

  41. Susan on 28 Aug 2007 at 3:05 am

    Cheerleading and golf!

  42. Anni on 28 Aug 2007 at 3:30 am

I’m going to join the crowd and go with golf and cheering!

  43. Sarag on 28 Aug 2007 at 4:10 am

    Cheerleading/Dance Team and Golf.

  44. Valerie on 28 Aug 2007 at 4:19 am

I think I’ll have to guess Cheerleading and Golf too!

  45. Loretta on 28 Aug 2007 at 4:30 am

    Golf and cheerleading

  46. Gwen on 28 Aug 2007 at 4:35 am

Without any hints, or 45 other people saying cheerleading & golf, I’d have guessed soccer & cross country, but I guess, given the photo, it’s cheerleading & golf!!!

  47. Gena on 28 Aug 2007 at 4:48 am

    Yeah….cheering and golf!

Love that closure! Where did you find it?

  48. Michelle on 28 Aug 2007 at 4:56 am

Cheerleading and golf. :-) That clasp is really pretty!

  49. Carol on 28 Aug 2007 at 5:03 am

I’ll try Cheerleading and basketball and also wish you luck. :)

  50. Deb on 28 Aug 2007 at 5:07 am

Okay, my first thoughts (and nearly everyone else’s) were cheerleading and golf but maybe that’s too obvious? Has to be golf but how about tennis for your girl? My daughter did marching band, much warmer outfit, nothing like wool in the central valley of CA. LOL

  51. marianne on 28 Aug 2007 at 5:10 am

well definitely golf…but the uniform? the skirt seems all ‘not quite right’ for cheerleading…but does look right for tennis. (seriously, those cheerleaders are jumping up and down and kicking those legs, etc) but then tennis wouldn’t be just for Fall…
    Love the hardware!

  52. Mom2Schnauzers on 28 Aug 2007 at 5:15 am

LOVE that color…and the button is gorgeous! (Where’d ya get it?) I’d say the activities are cheerleading and golf…

  53. Kathy on 28 Aug 2007 at 5:19 am

    The same!

  54. Yvonne on 28 Aug 2007 at 5:25 am

    Cheerleading and golf?

  55. Jo on 28 Aug 2007 at 5:32 am

My first guess was going to be cheerleading and cycling - but on second glance I am going with cheerleading and golf as well.

  56. lisa on 28 Aug 2007 at 5:35 am

Yeah the cheerleeding one was pretty easy for me…but I had to ponder the other…why are all those things that look like bike seats in a tall tubular container-well because they look like golf!

  57. Sandra on 28 Aug 2007 at 5:43 am

As with everyone ahead of me - cheerleading and golf (I have the same rescue club cover…)

My son starts back next week - grade three, but also tons of activities and time sync-ing to do. oy.

  58. Kristi on 28 Aug 2007 at 5:52 am

Seems to me that cheerleading and golf seem to be the obvious answers. Of course there could always be the not so obvious answers as embroidery team and caddy’s! Good luck on the schedules, it took us two weeks but I think we are back to some semblance of normal in our household! Can’t wait to see the sweater!

  59. kellyd on 28 Aug 2007 at 5:57 am

Ummm that would be “What are cheerleading and golf?” for 100 please.

  60. marie in florida on 28 Aug 2007 at 6:03 am

do golfers have cheerleaders? i thought they were supposed to be all so very quiet?

  61. Dee on 28 Aug 2007 at 6:15 am

I’m going with the crowd–golf and cheerleading. Go team!

  62. Miss T on 28 Aug 2007 at 6:24 am

    Golf and cheerleading.

  63. Sharon on 28 Aug 2007 at 6:34 am

Hmmm. . . I’m going with Golf & Soccer??? I was a cheerleader many, many, many years ago and the skirt just doesn’t seem short enough to me (I know that sounds terrible, but you need room if you are going to be jumping, flipping, etc.

The clasp is wonderful. . . can’t wait to see the entire sweater.

    Sharon

  64. Lori Bollinger on 28 Aug 2007 at 6:43 am

    I’m guessing Cheerleading and Golf?

  65. Malia on 28 Aug 2007 at 6:49 am

I’ll go with Cheerleading and Golf.

Though, it would be funny if it was Costume Design and Golf Cover Creation.

  66. Carla on 28 Aug 2007 at 7:05 am

Cheerleading and golf. Very easy hints :) But I did vaguely remember you mentioning at some point on your blog about how your daughter was a cheerleader (or maybe I’m imagining that!)

  67. Karen on 28 Aug 2007 at 7:08 am

My kids don’t go back to school until next week - when I think of the daytime peace it makes me laugh giddily - but then when I think of the homework fight and making lunches I want to cry!!

My guess is hmm - cheerleading and golf.

  68. Beth on 28 Aug 2007 at 7:15 am

What a cute clasp! I can’t wait to see the whole FO photo. I have a hard time picking out buttons and such. When SnB girls bring in their options to look at, I’m no help whatsoever.

I’ll toss in a cheerleading and golf answer just to add to the amount of potential winners. ;) Does Hannah do all the gymnastics and lifts too? Cheerleading can be downright dangerous these days.

  69. Anne on 28 Aug 2007 at 7:17 am

I’m guessing cheerleading and golf, too!

  70. Susanne on 28 Aug 2007 at 7:22 am

I will say cheerleading, golf AND volleyball. I think that is a volleyball net although I could be right out of my mind..(wouldn’t be the first time!)
Hope the kids have a great year!

  71. Hillary on 28 Aug 2007 at 7:34 am

Yup, I’m going with cheerleading and golf too.

  72. Terri P. on 28 Aug 2007 at 7:36 am

Love the closure on that sweater. Can’t wait to see the BIG picture. I’m guessing cheerleading and golf.

  73. jenny on 28 Aug 2007 at 7:46 am

    cheerleading & golf, for sure.
I’m just about finished with my first lace project. . .FCShawl.
It’s great fun! Thanks for such a great pattern.

  74. Cayli on 28 Aug 2007 at 7:47 am

My guess is cheer and golf. But it could be tennis and golf.
    Guess we will see.

  75. Em on 28 Aug 2007 at 7:50 am

Out of a limb with Tennis and Golf.

  76. Ruth on 28 Aug 2007 at 7:53 am

Although it’s not a kilt, I’m going with field hockey and golf. :)

  77. Rachel on 28 Aug 2007 at 7:59 am

Cheerleading and Golf!! I can’t wait to see more photos of your sweater!

  78. Amy on 28 Aug 2007 at 8:11 am

this non-spinner will guess Cheerleading and Golf. go team!

  79. Wendy on 28 Aug 2007 at 8:23 am

I guess I have to go along with the crowd and say cheerleading and golf which is probably easier to coordinate than the equestrian and fencing that my kids participate in.

  80. Joan on 28 Aug 2007 at 8:28 am

Cheerleading I knew, but even though it’s cheating I’ll guess golf. My picture would have a base guitar and a set of drums… good thing my kids are growing up in the country!

  81. Kate on 28 Aug 2007 at 8:33 am

Ahh… the two activities I did in high school:

    cheerleading and golf!

  82. Imbrium on 28 Aug 2007 at 8:34 am

    Oh…ah…hrm. Whatever shall I guess?

How about…cheerleading and golf? No one else will guess that. :)

  83. Kristeen on 28 Aug 2007 at 8:44 am

My guess would be cheerleading and golf…….but you probably already knew that….lol

    Love the closure…..so beautiful!

  84. graygirl on 28 Aug 2007 at 9:15 am

    Duuuhhhh! Cheerleading and golf!
    What else could it be????

  85. Barb on 28 Aug 2007 at 9:23 am

Like the others, I am guessing cheerleading/pom-pom girls, and golf.

I love the sweater closures that you added to your sweater.

  86. ponyknit on 28 Aug 2007 at 9:25 am

    Cheerleading and golf :)

    GO team Running Ragged!!!

  87. karen w on 28 Aug 2007 at 9:52 am

Looks like you have a dance team/cheerleader and a golfer at your house. :D

  88. Kim on 28 Aug 2007 at 10:02 am

Cheerleading and golf! Have a smooth start to the school year!

  89. Katherine Allred on 28 Aug 2007 at 10:06 am

Well, you’re certainly making this tough! Cheer and golf. That skirt looks a little short for a boy his age though. And I didn’t know they let freshmen on the golf team. But it’s a progressive state, right?

  90. Beth S. on 28 Aug 2007 at 10:25 am

If the clasp is that pretty, how lovely the entire sweater must be! :-)

  91. Jan on 28 Aug 2007 at 10:53 am

I’m with everyone else — cheerleading and golf! Random number generator, here I come!

  92. Anna on 28 Aug 2007 at 11:11 am

Cheerleading and golf. I’m real original with my guessing LOL

  93. Bear Knits on 28 Aug 2007 at 11:13 am

    Daughter - Cheerleading
    Son - Golf

Can’t wait for the finished Lime Sitcom Chic!

  94. Laura on 28 Aug 2007 at 12:39 pm

Before seeing the pictures I was thinking football and tennis but… uhh… obviously that’s not the right choice. Golf is a spring sport for boys here in Kansas!

So it’s Cheerleading and Golf! And I LOVE the sweater closure. Where did it come from?

  95. sarah on 28 Aug 2007 at 12:43 pm

    Cheerleading & golf
As an english blogger I hope this is the right guess.

  96. Doris on 28 Aug 2007 at 12:44 pm

Wow, you made that easy! Cheerleading and golf are certainly what the visual aids tell me! Where did you get that great button for your Sitcom Chic? I just finished one and have been trying to come up with the right button. That one is awesome!

  97. Paula B on 28 Aug 2007 at 12:46 pm

It was so-o-o obviously cheerleading and golf… Wish I’d read sooner and was first in line!

  98. grace on 28 Aug 2007 at 12:57 pm

    field hockey and golf

  99. sue on 28 Aug 2007 at 1:18 pm

Looks like cheerleading, soccer (was that a shin guard on the left?), and golf? It all adds up to a busy parent, doesn’t it.

  100. Joni on 28 Aug 2007 at 1:31 pm

    cheerleading and lacrosse?

  101. brenda on 28 Aug 2007 at 2:54 pm

hi! happy back to school :) my grandkids go year round (try it - it’s great!) i’m guessing tennis & golf.

  102. Janice on 28 Aug 2007 at 3:12 pm

After much thought, I’m going to go with cheerleading and golf. The sweater looks great.

  103. rosie on 28 Aug 2007 at 4:01 pm

Got to be cheerleading and golf - but I see about a hundred other people know that too!

Good luck to both of them on their seasons.

  104. Chris on 28 Aug 2007 at 4:08 pm

    Oh, cheerleading and golf.

I love reading your site…and I look forward to getting to know you better.

  105. Donna Benson on 28 Aug 2007 at 4:25 pm

    Cheerleading and gold

Just found your site. Looks like I’ll be back!

  106. Linda on 28 Aug 2007 at 4:28 pm

Looking forward to seeing the whole sweater…..the teaser looks wonderful.

I am with the majority and think that your children are involved in cheerleading and golf……hope they both have winning seasons.

  107. Irene Johnston on 28 Aug 2007 at 4:32 pm

    Cheerleading and golf.

  108. Gina Piscitelli on 28 Aug 2007 at 5:09 pm

Definitely cheerleading and golf for the kids, and lots of driving, carpooling, waiting, and schlepping by whatever means possible for mom. Great sweater! Happy knitting.

  109. Tiffany L. on 28 Aug 2007 at 5:25 pm

Well even though it seems that everyone has already guessed it i’m gunna throw in my two cents and agree that it’s cheering and golf.

  110. Heather on 28 Aug 2007 at 6:47 pm

    Cheerleading and field Hockey

  111. sharon on 28 Aug 2007 at 7:04 pm

cheerleading and golf are my guesses….the cheer was easy, the golf i had to google the name…(owning up to it)
    sharon

  112. Cayenne on 28 Aug 2007 at 7:20 pm

Cheerleading and Golf. That picture of your sweater gave me a turn because I have an almost identical picture on my blog. My sweater is a different pattern, but it is green, and my clasps are bronze instead of silver, but I have a close-up of mine just like yours. Weird.

  113. Kristan on 28 Aug 2007 at 8:54 pm

    Cheerleading and golf!!

  114. Rebecca on 28 Aug 2007 at 8:56 pm

Cheerleading And snowboarding. i dont spin so i am interested in what else you could give away if i win. Does it include Yarn!?

  115. Kathy on 28 Aug 2007 at 10:13 pm

Woo-hoo - you have a cheerleader! And a golfer, it looks like :-)

  116. Lisa Q on 29 Aug 2007 at 4:16 am

I’m guessing cheerleading a golf. Thanks for the pattern…can’t wait to get started.

  117. Maureen on 29 Aug 2007 at 5:03 am

My guess is tennis for your daughter and golf for your son!! Love the sweater closure can’t wait to see the sweater!

  118. Tina Van Hoecke on 29 Aug 2007 at 6:32 am

Cheerleading and Golf for me too.
Can’t wait to see more on that sweater.

  119. Tracey in MI on 29 Aug 2007 at 6:42 am

    tennis and golf;)

  120. Amy Murdock on 29 Aug 2007 at 7:09 am

    Cheering and golfing. Excellent activities!

  121. LaVerna Ferril on 29 Aug 2007 at 7:33 am

I have to say cheerleading and golf.

  122. Mary on 29 Aug 2007 at 8:13 am

    Cheerleading & golf!

  123. Laura on 29 Aug 2007 at 8:19 am

    Cheerleading and golf…

around here, golf is a spring sport…not a fall sport..so the soccer players who are also golf geeks can play both!

  124. Maureen on 29 Aug 2007 at 8:45 am

I too will go with golf and cheerleading. Love the button detail you showed as well! Can’t wait to see the whole sweater.

  125. Birdsong on 29 Aug 2007 at 9:08 am

Cheerleading and golf… I knew without looking at everyone elses’ answers, having both gotten 4 kiddos through high school recently and taught high school for 8 years. I am relieved that it is behind me and will be thinking of you driving madly about to get them to all their ‘functions’. Lots of motherly knitting time watching sporting events, though!

  126. Carol on 29 Aug 2007 at 11:02 am

A little late on the draw. I just took my last of three to college last week. Now just running to college with things she forget.

    Cheerleading and Golf.

    Have fun running around!

  127. Tish on 29 Aug 2007 at 11:25 am

Cheer and Golf! (We have an almost identical cheer outfit in our closet, except it says “Army” on the front- a remnant of my now 22yo’s middle school years! Sadly, our much neglected golf clubs are naked except for the one driver with a furry faux hockey stick cover.)

  128. Sourire11 on 29 Aug 2007 at 12:48 pm

Count me in the Cheerleading and Golf group!

  129. Brenda Kempf on 29 Aug 2007 at 1:07 pm

    cheerleading and cycling?

  130. christa z. on 29 Aug 2007 at 1:07 pm

wow! They have golfing as a school sport now? Neat. But do they allow the cheerleaders (and your daughter) to cheer at the golf tournaments, now that would be something I would be willing to watch.

  131. Cathy on 29 Aug 2007 at 1:59 pm

Cheerleading/dance team and golf. Enjoy the schedule! All 4 of mine are now in their 20’s…2 live across the country..and I miss ‘em like crazy. (not the circle driving of yesteryear….drop, drop, pick up, drop, pick up, pick up..drop, pick up….daily…)but game day, event day..loads of fun..and with great friends!

  132. Pat on 29 Aug 2007 at 2:31 pm

    Cheerleading and golf.

  133. adrienne on 29 Aug 2007 at 2:33 pm

i will follow the leaders with

    cheerleading and golf.

    ah-so original of me!

  134. Kim on 29 Aug 2007 at 4:54 pm

Looks like Cheerleading and Golf! Have fun schlepping them all over creation! :)

You have a cheerleader and a golfer there. Looks like Mom’s taxi is now in service!

Cheerleading and golf, good luck with the schedule arranging, its the bit of back to school I hate, for me, there always seems to be one day where there is a need to be at opposite ends of the city at the same time.

Oh yeah! Definitely Cheer and Golf… and probably a half dozen other things if they are normal teens in school these days. You have my sympathies my friend regarding the schedule issues. Been there, doing that have the headache and increased mileage on the car to prove it. :-)

Geez, you’re making it almost too easy to make a good guess - there must be a catch, right? I’ll go with cheerleading/pompom (just to cover the base) and golf.

my first thoughts were cheer and wrestling, as some of those items look like wrestling pads to me. But some are definitely golf clubs. You didn’t say, howver, how many activities each child was involved in, so I’ll guess all three.

Cheerleading and golf. That was a bit too easy. I didn’t have to do a google search at all. Oh, and I don’t spin, but I do own a spindle, cuz I’m optimistic, you see. Good luck in the new academic year.

I’ll join the few others who’ve said cheerleading and golf!

My daughter’s a cheerleader. Her school colors are the same as your kids’.

Cheerleading and golf at the same time? ;)

The yarn came today (Friday), THANK YOU!! I can’t wait to get started on my Spring Things Shawl!!!

What a fun contest, and I’ll bet you’re quite busy between those two activities. :-)

I am guessing cheerleading and golf as well.
I know what you mean about the syncing of the schedules during the first weeks of school - I live in the constant fear of going to pick the wrong kids at the wrong school at the wrong time, while wondering why I was thinking that I was going to have more free time when they are in school (I was proven wrong every year and I still hope every year.)

    Happy belated birthday!

OOOh, clearly one’s a cute lil’ cheerleader. The other plays golf. Wow - my HS never had a golf team (that I know of).

    :O)

Ha ha! Everyone is guessing the same thing! Your hints were just too obvious. Yep. Cheerleading and golf.
