Step Two
After knitting up the skein of Fishermen’s Wool, I folded it in half and marked the center with some cotton yarn.
The turquoise-colored yarn on the ends is just some acrylic I used so I didn’t have to bind off the beginning or the end of the piece.
Then I soaked it in some warm water for about 30 minutes until it was saturated.
Then I dyed it using a gradated technique described on the Knit Picks website.
Hmmm . . . what will it become??

What?? Is that purple?!?! My eyes must be deceiving me. You don’t knit with purple yarn.
So pretty! I have some sock yarn that someone dyed using a knitting machine and this technique and I keep hoarding it!
Holy MOLY, that is cool. I can’t wait to see what you’re going to knit with the yarn!
I’m with Beth! PURPLE!??? YOU????
The suspense is killing me!!!
Very cool! Thank you for the link. I haven’t seen that method before.
I’m guessing a shawl, but that may just be me.
Good luck with the yarn holding the color…I’ve had trouble before with that yarn. I can’t wait to see what it becomes.
Verrrry innnnteressting!
I’m totally in the dark about your project! My only guess is a poncho…but I guess I’ll have to wait and see!
I like the drying rack. Very spacious, and no drips in the house, no having to remove it to take a bath…. hmmmmmm
Love the dye job! :0)
I’m probably wrong, but I think you’re going to unravel it and then knit a pair of comfy socks.
Very intriguing…
Are you going to felt it up and sew something together? Or are you going to overdye it again? And mabye unravel it after you’re done dying it?
Hmm … I’m still sticking with the bunny idea from the last post. Folly? Maybe. But if turns out to be true, I’ll look mighty clever!
Looks like the beginning of a felted needle bag, similar to Adrianne Thomas design.
beautiful color
Hrmm…. Especially dyed color that’s paler in the middle? Maybe you’re going to ravel it, ball it back up, do a couple more dye jobs in a few more colors in the same gradual fashion (or perhaps not), and then do something spectacular in fair-isle patterning that none of us would have dreamed of, but in fact, all covet and marvel (yet again) at your brilliance and over-all paragon-of-womanhoodness? and then rush to duplicate (or vary on a theme, as preferred)….?
That might just be me….
It looks like the Judy Jacobs technique of knitting, dyeing, unraveling, and reknitting into something else. But what else??
Delightful that you are playing with this dyeing technique! I am guessing a gift more than something for yourself.
Very Cool! I recently purchased some yarn for dyeing and having it knitted up would make it so much easier to dye. Now I know what to do with my sweater machine. Thanks.
