Safe And Sound

On Monday I received a very nice email from my Sockapalooza pal telling me she’d received the socks and, best of all, they fit! So, who was my pal? None other than Jennifer, the designer of the awesome Counterpoint Scarf from the December ‘06 issue of Magknits. The person knitting for me hasn’t revealed herself yet and my socks haven’t arrived so the Sockapalooza excitement continues. In the meantime, I can become better acquainted with this lovely skein of Mountain Colors Bearfoot that found its way into my mailbox.

I won a contest Lisa held to celebrate her new blog and this was my prize. Lucky, huh. And check out the adorable needle case that Lisa included in the package. Very cute and functional. Thanks, Lisa.

Sitcom Chic; did someone say Sitcom Chic?

I guess I never did take and post photos of the completed Sitcom Chic sweater. That would be because I still haven’t sewn the button on yet. Yup, one single solitary button and I can’t decide on how to affix it to the sweater. I worked the front edges in an eyelet pattern and I haven’t had time to really think through the best way to secure the button. So to distract you from the absence of finished Sitcom Chic photos, I’ll instead post a photo of my current main squeeze WIP:

A Baby Surprise Jacket.

This one is for a class I’m teaching at the Wool Cabin in September so I intend to add all the bells and whistles to it: ribbed cuffs, I-cord edging, and a collar. I’m also working the increases and decreases in stockinette stitch instead of garter stitch.

I like it. My BFF hates it.  You be the judge.

I like your interpretation of BSJ by EZ. I am saving my pennies to go to the EZ knitting school in 2009! That is an important year in my battle against breast cancer, so I say, ‘What better way to celebrate a milestone in life?’
Beautiful colourway Lisa sent to you! I will be interested to see what you knit with those colours.

of course she hates it–it’s green. I love green!

  3. Manise on 09 Aug 2007 at 9:01 pm

Yup, Margene hates green. And yellow too ;-)

  4. marianne on 10 Aug 2007 at 3:56 am

Well, I’m loving the green and brown, and I kind of like the look of the inc and dec in ss.
That’s some gorgeous prize yarn! YUM!

  5. Carole on 10 Aug 2007 at 3:57 am

Does she just hate it because it’s green? How shallow. ;-)

  6. margene on 10 Aug 2007 at 4:48 am

Hey! I’m getting a bad wrap on the green! I just don’t like the decrease you’ve substituted. It’s too ‘perfect’. The green looks rather good with the brown.
Your prize is very cool…love the needle case.

  7. Beth on 10 Aug 2007 at 4:52 am

I’m tempted to enter more sock swaps hoping to get Margene (again) and knit her some green socks. ;)

  8. Miriam on 10 Aug 2007 at 5:31 am

If you were knitting it in blues or purples I bet Margene’d be on board despite the decreases ;)

  9. Carla on 10 Aug 2007 at 6:17 am

I haven’t gotten my sockapalooza socks either, but my pal just emailed me last night to let me know they are on the way.
BSJ.. I was going to ask why Margene didn’t like it, but she answered in comments. I must be the only knitter in the world who respects EZ, but doesn’t necessarily love her designs. I have always truly disliked the “look” of the BSJ. I think the construction is interesting, but the finished product has never appealed to me aesthetically.

i love it, very woody and masculine. plus, bearfoot? aahh..i’ve begun to knit socks with mine and i am in love!

  11. Marcia on 10 Aug 2007 at 6:47 am

Oh, what does she know?! I think it’s cool. A BSJ is on my short list for the very near future.

  12. Tan on 10 Aug 2007 at 6:51 am

Of course she doesn’t like it. It’s green. You can’t let that control your plans.

  13. diane on 10 Aug 2007 at 6:57 am

I love non traditional baby colors on baby clothes.

  14. Teresa on 10 Aug 2007 at 7:51 am

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, right?

I think it is gonna be FAB!

  15. Debi on 10 Aug 2007 at 9:40 am

I much prefer the centered double decrease and I really like the color combo.

I think we should all send Margene a skein of green yarn :)

I have to tell you Susan, you are the QUEEN of “Brand X” yarn. You have more yarns here that I’ve never heard of than anyplace else. I think it’s so funny!

  16. lisa on 10 Aug 2007 at 9:40 am

You’re welcome! Glad you liked the little needle holder..I’d made a bunch but very few sold at the LYS (I think I had them at $2). I haven’t quite figured out what I think of the baby surprise jacket…it must be fun to make, I’m not so sure what I think of it as a FO laying flat, but I think I’ve seen it on a baby and it looked good. As for yours, I REALLY like the colors!

  17. Kim on 10 Aug 2007 at 10:12 am

Love, love, love it….but then green is my most favorite color :-)

  18. paula on 10 Aug 2007 at 12:25 pm

It looks very nice. I was admiring the decreases when I saw Margene’s post. I don’t like green by itself in non-variegated yarn, but that’s just me. But I like the rest of it.

  19. Beth S. on 10 Aug 2007 at 12:43 pm

Margene is an upstanding member of the fiber community and a source of great delight to all who know her, but her lack of appreciation for the greens is *clearly* her tragic flaw. And I don’t think she’s all that keen on orange, either! Such a pity. ;-)

  20. Carol on 10 Aug 2007 at 12:44 pm

I like it! Really nice prizes too!

  21. Rebecca on 11 Aug 2007 at 8:10 am

Bearfoot used to be one of my favorite yarns…until I saw how it holds up over time. It gets fuzzier and fuzzier…LOL The yarn feels very nice on the foot though!

  22. Batty on 11 Aug 2007 at 1:07 pm

Beautiful yarn! And Sitcom Chique is looking great. Don’t know why your friend doesn’t like it, I’m quite fond of that color combination.

  23. Leisel on 12 Aug 2007 at 7:13 am

I really like the single column of stockinette. I also think the colors are nice.

  24. Katherine Allred on 13 Aug 2007 at 8:31 am

Hey, I love it, even the lovely decreases. And of course I love the colorway. I wanna take the class. But that’s no surprise, right?

  25. Laura on 15 Aug 2007 at 2:30 pm

Oh the green and brown is fantastic! Looks very woodsy and rugged like the garter stitch. Isn’t it cool how just changing the colors will change the whole feel of garter stitch? And personally I think those decreases are really cool!! Margene probably just wishes she had thought of it. hehe
