Rhinebeck Recap
This post is very picture-heavy. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.
I flew into Boston on Wednesday evening and had dinner with an old friend (who kindly picked me up from the airport). On Thursday, I puttered around the town in which I grew up and prepped myself for the anticipated madness of Rhinebeck.
Carole and Blogless Sharon arrived at my hotel at the appointed time on Friday and we set out. The weather was a bit unsettled that day but the foliage was spectacular against the grey sky. Our room wasn’t ready when we arrived so we made a stop at the local liquor store.
You know you’re not in Kansas Utah anymore when you’re offered a free sample at the liquor store:
That night, we sat in the hotel lobby knitting and chatting with the tens of other knitters gathered. I didn’t take a single photo, but I met Norma, Sandy, Cara, and Vicki and numerous others. I felt like a groupie at a rock concert.
The next morning it was off to the Duchess County Fairgrounds.
And then I spied Amy’s hair and got my photo taken with her and Kathy, both of them wearing their Forest Canopy shawls!
Later, the blogger meet-up overwhelmed me a bit so I ducked into the adjacent building and did a little solitary wine and cheese tasting. But, I do remember meeting Deb, and Kate, and Adrian, and numerous others whose names now escape me because I was frantically trying to match names and faces which only caused me to get more confused. But I did manage to capture a photo of Manise, Michaele, Carole, Kathy, Sharon, and Erin after the madness subsided.
Later that night, Carole and Sharon hosted “Rumbeck 2007″ in their hotel room. Carole brought the napkins:
She and Sharon were amazing hosts:
I finally got to meet Laurie:
and Judy:
and Cheryl (who is spinning on Kim’s amazing Norm Hall wheel):
We even let Kim have a turn on her own wheel. Does she look happy, or what:
And my last photo, taken on Sunday just before we left, is of Terry modeling her fabulous Indigo Ripples skirt.
In case you were wondering, yes I bought some stuff. But I haven’t taken any photos of the fiber acquisitions yet. They are completely secondary to all the wonderful people with whom I spent the weekend.

WONDERFUL! You lucky grrl…to see them all in person, sigh. Terry looks fabulous in her skirt. I remember all those stitches she had to bind off and all the words that got her through;-)
So lucky to have met you and spent time with you! Great photo of Terry!
Your recap is wonderful and I feel like I’m right back there with everyone! I guess I’d better mail your stuff so you can take photos of it.
That’s terrific! What are we doing for fun this weekend?
Friends, fiber and booze… nothing else necessary for a great weekend.
Looks like it was a great weekend! Glad you had fun.
Sigh…….it was wonderful, wasn’t it? I am SO happy you came out and spent the weekend with all of us!!
Delightful! You got lots of photos and nice to see people wearing your creations. Love Kim’s wheel too…
I REALLY tried to go up on Sunday, but was up all night Saturday with a stomach thing…by the time I felt human, I’d only have had about an hour at the fairgrounds, so I bagged it completely. I missed you…maybe next year!
So excited to hear about your trip. Waiting for the shopping . . .
It was SO much fun, and I’m so glad we got a chance to meet!!
What a fun time we had! And it was so great to have you there! I’m trying to get Kim to will her wheel to me but she keeps making a fuss about family heirlooms and these pesky daughters she has. Give me a few decades though, I’ll wear her down.
Okay, this is funny - I totally remember ogling your shawl, but I don’t think I introduced myself, or realized that I read your blog! It was beautiful. Great photos!
Thanks for sharing, Susan! It’s been fun this week to be treated to so many virtual Rhinebeck visits.
Looks like you had a blast!
I see you found my girl Mama E!!

Nice recap. I hope I don’t look that maniacal all the time.

Now that looks like fun! Rumbeck ~snort~
And it looks like beautiful weather, to boot. We missed you and are glad to have you back (though Hannah did a great job standing in) and hope to see a bit of you this weekend at Silver Fork.
Our time together was way too short and fractured. But I’m comin’ out to Utah sometime soon — or at least I keep on threatening to…!
Oh, Susan, if I had spent every waking and even sleeping moment with you
1. it would not be enough
and, perhaps most importantly…
2. you would be SOOOO sick of me!
hee!
It was so wonderful to meet you. I have so many reasons to visit Utah. So many.
