I'm Catholic and when I was a kid, it was still no-meat on Fridays. Every Friday my Mom made the much-despised-by-me fish. At some point, my friend Ellen's Mom must have taken pity on me and she started inviting me to their Friday night dinners. What did she make? Latkes! After lighting the Sabbath candle, we'd stuff ourselves with latkes. I still remember them as the best-ever latkes I've ever had. Oh yum, latkes!
