Let The Knitting Begin
After much gnashing of teeth, knitting, and frogging quiet contemplation, I believe I have chosen the perfect combination of yarn & pattern for my Sockapalooza pal.
The yarn is Mountain Colors Bearfoot in the Firestorm colorway.
The pattern is Unst from Knitting on the Road:
I’ve altered the pattern slightly by adding a couple of garter stitch rows between the cuff and the leg to demarcate the cuff just a bit. So far, so good.
This pattern makes liberal use of double decreases and I’m glad I decided to use my Knit Picks double points. They’re pointy and slick–perfect for this project. By now I’m sure you’ve seen that they come in just about every size: 2.0, 2.25, 2.5, & 2.75 mm. Yup, Knit Picks has you covered.
And while you’re on the Knit Picks site checking out the dpns, make sure you do not look at all their sale yarns. K?

No worries, I’ll leave all the butterfly kisses for you.
Your pal will love that pattern/sock combo. Firestorm is one of their best colorways.
I have a whole set of DP’s from knitpiks that I will never use. The reason?..their 6″ and I prefer knitting with 4 8 inch needles instead. Also, they don’t carry size 0. Lovely colorway and nice pattern, I have that book too…ciao
I can look all I like at the Knit Picks sale yarns because they still don’t send to the UK,
Ooo, I like the color!!
What a great combination!. I really like the Unst pattern and I found it quite a quick knit.
The sock choice is beautiful! I think I have settled on making the Embossed Leaves for my pal…or maybe the Monkeys…oh, as you can see, I am still not decided, hehehe.
I tried the KnitPicks dpns, I found them too pointy–I use my right index to push on the left hand needle :(. But they are very nice needles though.
They are going to be great!
Really nice! And thanks for contributing to the depletion of my retirement funds;)
Too late. Bought the needles, bought the yarn. Should arrive just after my Elann stuff gets here…
Don’t the KP dpns just fall out if you’re not careful? I love my Options needles, but I’m still gunshy of those dpns. And I highly prefer socks on dpns to the other methods . . .
Their yarn is such a good deal to begin with that it’s pure evil when they put it on sale.
Oooh, don’t tempt me to go to KnitPicks. I can’t resist them! And I always have to place a $45 order so I can get the free shipping!
Your sock looks terrific - I love the colors!
Looks great! I’m having a bit of a love affair with both Bearfoot and KP’s needles right now. I have a pair of socks using the Bearfoot on KP’s 2.5mm needles and they’re coming out beautifully and best of all… they are FLYING. Love the KP’s needles! Have fun!
Aren’t you sneaky slipping that “do not look” in there. You can’t tempt me
Nope not gonna look
But that Bearfoot yarn is really pretty.
a few weeks ago, my son, who is at a summer job in casper wyoming, sent me mountain colors bearfoot, RedTail Hawk, he was surprised by the price but delighted to discover how popular the yarn is and how much i wanted it. his LYS told him it’s local, montana? is that right?
so, socks for Jason sometime soon.
Looks great, and I am with you. Nice pointy needles are a must.
I have a full set of the Lantern Moon Sox sticks and love the feel of wood, but they don’t have sharp enough points…..
schade
You can’t go wrong with Bearfoot. Lovely stuff, and you picked a drop-dead-gorgeous colorway.
Just saw that you are closing the Destash site. As someone who has sold and purchased tons there, I wanted you know what a great service you provided all of us compulsive yarn hoarders/knitters. I truely enjoyed browsing the site and getting to meet other crazy compulsive knitters!
I’m sorry to see it go but it was inevitable I suppose. Good things always come to an end.
Thanks.
Deborah
Whoo hoo! Knit picks must have recently added the 2.25mm size, which is my favorite!
You’re closing the DeStash site? Why oh why, Susan???
Love the sock pattern, love the yarn, love the colorway HATE the needles!! Too short, too heavy — too bad cause they are nice and pointy!
