Horcrux Socks Flickr Group

Kathleen set up a Flickr group for the Horcrux Socks.

Click here to join and post photos of your finished socks.

Thanks, Kathleen!

And check out Margene’s finished pair. She added 5 stitches to the pattern repeat and also made the leg longer. Fabulous.

In other sock-related news, I finally got a pair of plain stockinette stitch, self-patterning ones off the needles and onto my feet:

I used my tried and true non-pattern:

  • 64 stitches on 2.25mm needles;
  • 20 rounds for the cuff;
  • 50 rounds for the leg;
  • 32 rows in the heel flap;
  • pick up 17 sts for gussets;
  • 55 rounds for the foot after the gusset decreases;
  • wedge toe.

Simply enough that even I can remember.

Tine sent the yarn to me last year and I started and frogged several patterns with it before deciding simple is sometimes best.

    Isn’t it great to knit plain old socks sometimes! I’ve got my pattern for those memorized, too.

    BTW … i remember that you have at least one little lacy pattern that fits into your basic recipe. like adding chocolate chips to a good cookie. and the eye of peacock heel flap.
    now there is a pdf i’d love to pay for. hint hint

    I hope you will be conducting another ‘Mystery Sock” in the future. I missed this one and it sounded like fun!

    My go-to sock pattern is similar but simpler. Cuff til long enough, leg til long enough, etc. ;) Of course I guess I can’t guarantee they’ll be exactly even to the row…

    Way to match the pattern!

    Oh, I forgot to put my modifications in the post! Your socks look fab…love the colorway and with yarn like that, simple is good enough.

    I absolutely love the self pattern socks shown above. Had you posted the yarn and colorway somewhere?

    I love your new socks! The color combination is beautiful.

    I have made lots of different socks, but I still feel comfort and a smile when I make basic self-patterning socks. Even a broader smile when the stripes match up as well as does your pair!!!

    I love the socks! Especially the colors! They look very cozy!

    Lovely winter-blue socks! And such a good job matching your stripes… must be good at sewing plaids together too I bet:) I think that I like a smaller heel flap myself, though.

    Simple IS best with Opal (that’s got to be Opal, right?) I like your standard formula… I usually just eyeball everything. ;-)

    ah*hum yes. you must have known that we would go to Tine’s site, see those socks with the beautiful swirley cableys swirls and just go crazy to make them and be all over google trying to google that and…well…
