Diversion From The Diversion

I regret to report that there hasn’t been much progress on the new Forest Canopy Shawl. In fact, I’m seriously thinking of frogging it because it’s served its purpose–i.e., to redirect my attention back to the nearly finished baby blanket. I’m weird like that. There’s nothing like a new project to get me interested in a project I’ve become lukewarm about. So, I soldier on with the blanket. But first . . . .

I did make a quick little washcloth using the endless cone of cotton and a shop pattern.  Update:  There is a similar pattern here that uses the same techniques.

Doesn’t it look just perfect with that yummy bar of Blessed Juno soap?

And, I forgot to post photos of the roving I dyed on Sunday. It’s wool blend roving I got from Amy.

I used Cushing dye (dark green and turquoise) and the method Kate taught us last September when I took her class at GBFAF. Basically, you heat up the roving and the water in a large pot and then just pour the different colors of dye on top and walk away . . . . you got it, just walk away. Works like a charm every time. That Kate is a genius I tell you.

And speaking of roving and Kate and Idaho, is anyone going to the Snake River Fiber Fair?

Very cute washcloth. Are you allowed to share the pattern? Or the name of the LYS, so I can go begging?

    That’s an adorable washcloth! Pattern?

Love the washcloth and the roving. I want to try my hand at dyeing some roving — I have some natural merino that I bought at Rhinebeck for that very purpose.

    That’s a great washcloth.

Lately I’ve been thinking of dedicating my crock pot to fiber. It’s not like I cook. :)

What a nice washcloth!! Very simple but cute pattern. Did you receive the sock yarn that I sent to you in exchange for the left over sock yarn?? Hope you liked it. Gail

It’s this one, here: http://www.mielkesfarm.com/dishclth.htm As soon as I saw it, I was “Short rows! I knew it!” And it does look beautiful - I’m totally seduced by the variegation.

The dishcloth pattern looks like it may be very similar to this one http://www.mielkesfarm.com/dishclth.htm

I’ve not done it, but it looks pretty!

That Cushings dye is good stuff. I have proof, Monkey dumped a jar of it (black, of course) on the carpet at our last place.
It turns out though if you are very careful and very desperate, that you can bleach it out.

love that washcloth. i’ve made a million pounds of them; that pattern is how i learned to wrap and turn. the “dishcloth botique” also has a pattern a matching coaster, go to page 5 on the site. it starts 8 stitches!

The colors on the roving are gorgeous! Can’t wait to see it spun up.

  11. Anne on 20 Apr 2007 at 8:41 am

I’ll be there - but you knew that, right?

Your colors are great! Is that what is called the “hot pour” method? It’s been recommended to me, I’ll have to give it a go.

That is a great washcloth! Thanks for the links. I think I know what I’ll be giving as teacher gifts now.

Thanks for the Snake River Fiber website. I live in Idaho Falls and may go just for the fun of it. I knit but do not spin.

An an idea- I knit them up- put a big bath bomb in the middle— then thread a ribbon through the yarnovers–or cinch with a ribboon at the top—– instant giftie;)

Love the washcloth and roving! I haven’t done a washcloth for myself yet and that looks like a great one–thanks for the inspiration.

I’ll be at the Snake River Fiber Fair, teaching two classes, actually. :-) I can’t wait!

I lurve that washcloth. Really really love it. I never thought I would be so taken with a washcloth. Did I mention I really like it?

I think Spring is definitely for some dyed roving. Thanks for the inspiration.

I’m always amazed at how lovely a simple cloth can look! :0)

Lovely washcloth. And I have it on good authority that “sunshine” is one of the most popular Blessed Juno soaps ;)

A contingency from the LYS Rumplestiltskin up here in Logan is going. I am from Rexburg, so I’ll be staying with my folks and driving down to IF every day. Haven’t signed up for any classes this time, but I’ll bring my wheel and a couple of WIPs.
