Contest Anyone?
I think it’s about time for a contest, don’t you.
First, the prizes:
Several months ago I moved my blog from Blogger to my own domain and I’ve not regretted it for one instant. Don’t get me wrong, I loved Blogger at the beginning. What was not to love; it was fairly easy to use, free, and when it was bought out by Google I was first in line to choose a Gmail address (if you’ve bought a pattern from me, you know how kick-ass my Gmail address is). Unfortunately, the honeymoon with Blogger wore off once they “improved” it. So it was onward and upward to WordPress.
The folks who host my blog now, IHS Web Solutions, are absolutely fantastic. They helped make the switch to WordPress completely painless and they’re always incredibly responsive to questions. So I’ve decided to share the love. The winner of the contest will receive the domain name of her choice (subject to availability, of course) and one year of basic blog hosting from IHS Web Solutions. How fun will that be!
I’ll also be giving away a bar of Hand Knit soap from Blessed Juno.
In case you missed the announcement, Laurie has decided to sell the soap for a limited time and she’s making it as fast as she can. So click here and buy a few bars before the opportunity is lost.
How to enter:
After the pilgrimage to IKEA on Sunday, I sat down and spun up some of the roving I blogged about on Sunday. It’s Targhee that was dyed by Judy Jackson in the “Wild Child” colorway.
Click on the photo for a close-up look.

According to Judy’s label, I started with 4 ounces of this roving. As of this morning, I have spun everything I’ve predrafted, leaving 1.2 ounces left to predraft. I intend to Navajo ply the singles to keep the short runs of color together. I spun the singles on my Schacht but I didn’t fill the bobbin since I’ll be plying on the Sonata which has a smaller bobbin.
Question: How many yards of yarn will I get from the singles on this bobbin??
Leave your answer in the comments and I’ll pick a winner as soon as I finish plying the singles. So hurry, in case I actually have time to ply some time this week. The person who guesses closest without going over, wins the year of blog hosting by IHS Web Solutions. The person who comes closest but guesses too high, wins the bar of Hand Knit soap.
How’s that sound?

I’m going to go with 175 yards of navajo plied yarn.
I love the colorway.
329 yards
But don’t enter me. It just so happens that http://www.craftycanines.net will redirect you to my typepad blog. For now.
180 yards. I’m probably waaaay off though
My guess is 343.
This is just like bidding on the Price is Right!
I’ll guess 127 yards, just because that’s a lucky number for me.
I’ll do the Price is Right thing in honor of Bob Barker and go with 170……..because I am a new spinner and have NO CLUE what to guess.
And I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE your Horcrux pattern.
I’m pretty in love with my Gmail email address, too. I’m going to guess 350 yards. I don’t know anything about spinning so that’s just completely random.
325 yds?
Something of a stab in the dark but going by my own navajo plying recently I will take a stab at 230yds
Probably miles off but never mind.
Hmmmm. I’ll play along. My guess is 372 yards. Let the plying begin!
289 yards.
Ooh, love the colors and the marled singles! I’m guessing 185 yds when plied. Thanks for a fun contest. And let me second the opinion on Horcrux Socks - LOVE the pattern!
230 yards. What gorgeous singles.
I’ll go with 214 yards
103 yards
I’m not great at guessing but I’ll give a whirl. I say 380 yards.
I’m new at this… here’s my stab at it… 235 yards
I know NUTHINK about spinning or plying — Navajo or otherwise — but here goes: 307 yards. Beautiful colorway.
put me down for 253yds
Ok, I am horrible at guessing these things (not so good w/numbers)…but…
I go with 281yds….
Even if I don’t win, it’s beautiful yarn.
My guess has no experience from which to draw…so I’ll just aim at 199 yards because it looks as if it would be a cool number. The colors are beautiful!
A bit of research, a bit of guessing, and I’ll take…284 yards.
It’s beautiful, no matter how much there is.
I’m guessing 220 yards.
I will guess…hmmmm, wait,……….333
I will guess 124 yards. (Though I’d rather win the soap than the blog-host.. heh)
I also know nuthink about spinning (except it makes me dizzy), so I will totally guess… 91 yards
I think it will be 118 yards Navajo plied.
Love the color way.
Great idea for a contest! I don’t want hosting services, but I’ll guess anyway - 312 yards.
I’ll go with 220. I don’t think that number is taken yet.
Maybe… eh… 205 yards…?
Oooh, I’d love to get out of blogger, but I don’t know enough to do it myself.
Um… nor do I know anything about spinning, so I say… 274 yards?
What a clever idea for a contest (and a great way to bring out all the lurkers like me). My guess would have to be 183.
I’m going to say that looks pretty fine…..how about closer to 399 yds????
I’m not going to guess since I’ve got two websites hosted by Pete (we’ve been internet friends since our Diaryland days) and he hosts a ton of my friends and my brother…
Congrats on finding the best and nicest webhost ever!
And the yarn? So pretty I want to eat it.
I’m so wanting to move off Blogger .. so my totally uneducated guess is …
268 yards or 536 cubits
Dene
I’ll guess 190 yards.
My guess is 162. It will be beautiful!
Yet another evil spinning temptress…
Since it looks rather fine and it’s about three and half ounces, I’ll guess 700 yards. Yeah, totally out there, but all I can think about lately is lace weight, so there ya go. ;^)
It’s just lovely, btw.
I’m going to guess 280 yards. That will be great yarn!
I know nothing, but I’ll go with 220 yds becuase that sounds good. Very pretty yarn too!
Man, I have no idea but I would say 211 yards. Don’t need the URL already own PurlingSprite, but if I am close, I would love the soap
Your yarn will come out to 900 yds/lb in two ply or 1800yd/lb in singles.
Three ply would be 600 yds/lb.
If you have 2.8 ounces that means you will end up with 105 yds from this bobbin.
My guess is 280 yards of beautiful yarn
I’ll play! I’m guessing that you’ll end up with 113 yards of yarn.
)
Hmm… 244 yds? No matter how much there ends up being, it’ll be beautiful!
Hmm, I don’t spin or ply or anything. . . so here’s my “shot in the dark” 255 yards.
I love your blog. . . the yarn colors are just so beautiful!
Sharon
The number that popped into my head is 292, but that’s knowing nothing.
I think it’s having two kids under 2, and on a scale of 1-10, having a stress level of 9.
Or something like that…
No spinning or plying experience here, either. Since my favorite number is 57, I’m going to go with 257 yards.
Wow, thanks for sharing the goodness! I will guess 400.
Beautiful handspun! I’ll take a wild guess and say 227 yards. I already ordered some of the soap. I can’t wait for it to get here!
I bet it will make exactly 244.3 yards.
No clue, so I will guess 269. I hope I don’t embarass myself.
I too have fallen out of love with blogger and my blogging has been effected. Its such a hassle these days since the ‘improvements’ - my guess 222. Gorgeous colours btw.
That sounds too much like math to me. Which involves thinking. And lots of fingers.
:D
I’ll have to try that soap! And loving your spun yarn!
172. That’s my final answer.
love your blog!
Hmm… I’ll say 119.
157 yards
I’ll guess 222 yds. Gorgeous colors, great soap, thanks!
I’ll go with 157, because every time I think I’ve broken the 200 yard barrier with chained singles I end up with 157 yards. It’s like the Twilight Zone.
330 yards. Just ’cause I like that number. I have nothing on which to base that guess…just a number that I like.
And…I love my gmail addy too. It catches all of the junk mail without fail. Love it!
I´ll guess 184 yard. Lovely colours.
I’m guessing 131 yards:)
I am going to have to say 375 yards? What did you get at IKEA? Wasn’t the parking crazy? All those people in orange shirts was weird.
Eh, I’m no good at this kind of guessing…how about 123 yards.
234. They sit so conveniently next to each other on the keyboard.
I’m going to guess 355 yards. Your spinning is beautiful, and I’m SO envious that you have an Ikea now. We flew out of SLC two days before it opened.
Hmm, um . . . 189.
This contest gives quite an advantage to spinners….but I’ll guess 256 (it’s the geek in me).
IHS looks like a great company! I especially like that they put on the front page how they have really low prices for nonprofits.
My guess is 121. Love your blog and your patterns.
My guess is…121.
198? Love your blog!
285.5 yards. A totally random guess.
252! But no idea- I don’t spin!
I’m going to guess 405 yds. Very pretty singles, BTW!
217 yards.
I’m guessing 315 yards. Very nice spinning, too. I can’t wait to see what it wants to be.
)
And someday, I’ll remember that my standard smiley face turns into a surprised smiley on your blog . . .
Yes, this contest is begging a Price’s Right joke, but as I already have hosting and domains out the whazoo, I won’t enter.
“One dollar…”
My guess is 280 yds. Beautiful yarn!
I guess 291 yds. Hope it’s enough for a least something good. I am currently working on my second Forest Canopy Shawl. Love the pattern. Becky
243 yards
234 yards?
How about 173 yards. It’s pretty too. We love having an Ikea 20 minutes away. Wonderful organizing stuff.
I will guess 283. Not matter how many you get it will be beautiful.
I’m with ya’ about wordpress - love it.
I’ll go for 211 yards
327 - I hope!
I’ve taken one drop spindle class and I have the upmost of respect for your work!
Have fun.
Well, I am dummy in spinnning, but I guess 195yards =)
I think it’ll be 128 yards
It’s lovely..regardless..but I’ll guess..305..just because that’s a combination of todays date and it’s my Grandson’s birthday..
I’m going to guess 253 yards.
319!
I’m going with 252-1/2 yards. Your singles are so pretty. I bet the plied yarn will be gorgeous. Can’t wait to see it.
I’m guessing about 382 yards. I have no clue if it will be even close, but your singles look awfully perfect and thin.
I am going to guess 215 yards I am not a spinner so I have no clue but it’s fun! The singles are beautiful.
You totally gave away the answer when you said you went to IKEA before spinning it. Everyone knows that yarn spun and plyed after a trip to IKEA will be exactly 227 yards.
Oh, and the singles are marvelous!
Oh its so pretty, I guess 262yards.
I’m going to guess since it’s spun pretty thin that you have 389 yards.
I’m going to guess 225 yds.
The spun yarn is soooooo pretty! You have to show the finished results.
Wild guess here, but 182 popped into my head. Oh how I would love my own domain!!!
Lovely colors! My uneducated guess is 234 yds.
Look forward to seeing the finished pictures.
Beautiful color selection. I’ll guess 242 yards. Can’t wait to see the finished yarn.
Love your blog! My guess is 800 yards.
I’ll go with 200yards… wild guess
200.13 yds
if I’m lucky;)
OMG! I so need to move out of livejournal and have talked about it for some time…off to check out your hoster! Here’s my guess (I have absolutely no idea, so) 331 yards.
I’ll guess 259.
234 yards…I have no idea, but I liked the look of the number!
my guess is 181 yards. there are a lot of comments here, so maybe someone beat me to it - I didn’t read them all!
My first and second guesses have been taken, so I’m going with 233! I love the colors and Targhee is so soft… mmm.
My guess is for 395 yards.
I’m just learning to spin, so I really have no clue. How about 192.
Wow, Susan! What a great contest prize idea! Not that I’m wanting to move, but I’ll guess 150 yards.
