Angels and Oil Magnates
Thanks for playing along with my little contest. The first photo was taken at Angels Stadium in Anaheim during Saturday night’s game against the Oakland A’s. See the Angel’s team logo in the photo:
The second photo was taken at the Cactus Garden at the Getty Center.
I absolutely loved the Getty and we were fortunate to see a wonderful exhibition of photographs by John Humble. But my favorite stop on this trip was to the Craft and Folkart Museum which is located on Wilshire Blvd directly across from the entrance to the Page Museum. I was completely smitten with the exhibition of works by Ramona Otto. The pieces are too unique and unusual to begin to describe them. So click on her name to see some of her work or, better yet, visit the museum and see them in person! The exhibition ends on June 10th so if you’re in the Los Angeles area between now and then get your butt over there.
Five people guessed both photos correctly. Julia even sent a link to a photo of the exact place where I took the photo. Judy, however, was the only one who specifically said the Cactus Garden at the Getty (as opposed to just The Getty) so I made the executive decision to pronounce her the winner of the contest. Yeah, I know, picky picky but I’m totally impressed that she knew the answer. Congrats, Judy, I’m sending you a copy of the Spring Things pattern. And I’m sending one to Julia, too, because that photo just freaked me out.
Later this week I’ll post a photo of another version of Spring Things that I knit with just one skein of Knit Picks Bare yarn. But while you wait for that, check the Spring Things KAL. Kate finished her shawl already. Yup, crazy! Does she sleep??!

I’m so jealous you got to see the Angels play! I just love watching Vlad hit virtually every pitch thrown at him, no matter how high/low/fast/slow/outside/inside/wonky.
Y’know, I thought the cacti looked familiar but figured it could just as well be an entrance to Anaheim etc. I’ve been to The Getty - tho it was several years ago - and DH snapped a lot of cactus pics. He has such spilkes, so to speak.
The Getty gardens are the coolest anywhere. I love to wonder around and watch the sky and the ocean from there, too.
In my defense, I’m a football fan. Yeah, the Reds have Junior but he’s always injured so what’s the point? Less than 3 weeks til the NFL draft…
Congrats to the winner. I think it is a lovely pattern. Can’t wait to buy it soon.
Thank you so much for the pattern! I had hoped that my superpowers would come in handy one day. I have only been to California once and we went to the San Diego Zoo, then went home the next day. Hope to get to the Getty one day.
doggone it SPL ; i thought you were my pal. i linked around to Kate’s blog to see her Spring Things shawl, got sucked in by the granny ripple crochet afghan and OMG how cool! haven’t seen anything really new in crochet in years. so; you think i can poke around a bit more and get to that pattern, in english? LOL..
Yay! How exciting! It’s a beautiful shawl–I think I have some yarn in my stash that will be just lovely for it. Thank you.
ohhh this is totaly biassed against the east coast girls! le sigh. i’ll try again next time
