A Fond Farewell to Fun Fur
My Fun Fur odyssey is complete. Yesterday I mailed off a package containing 14 hats knit from assorted novelty yarns:
If I never see another skein of Fun Fur again it will be too soon (although I confess I only knit 13 of the hats; my co-worker knit the 14th). I admire Mini for taking on this project for Children’s Hospital and for having the courage to temporarily share a home with all those hats. She’s received 845 hats already, which works out to more than 42,000 grams of Fun Fur. It’s making me a bit uncomfortable just to think of all those unnatural fibers in one home.
As the antidote for my recent Fun Fur high, I’ve been working on a new shawl design that I’ll be offering for sale shortly. The first prototype is complete and I’m knitting a second to see if I can squeeze the shawl out of one skein of Karabella Lace Mohair.
Stay tuned; it’s going to be close.

I can’t believe you did so many hats so fast!
Wow…14 hats. Nice job.
Good luck getting the shawl out of one skein. Gorgeous color!!
Just imagine how many smiles you have produced – with all those hats!!! Amazing, if you think about it……
Great hats! Kate will be thrilled. I knit my Kiri shawl from one skein of the Karabella Lace mohair, if that helps at all.
Oh, Kate IS thrilled! Wow… I really have 42,00 0 grams of fun fur in my house? You are assuming everyone used one skein. LOL… the other night, while opening boxes, Dan said “this one’s heavy! must be a lot of hats!” It was 4. 4 hats cost $12.45 to ship First Class– they were doubled with cotton and tripled with fun fur… the heaviest hats I have ever seen. I can’t wait to see the shawl… it looks like cobwebs… So dainty!
I was going to ask you about your fun fur addiction last night…glad it’s over. You did a great thing by knitting so many hats. Fingers are crossed for your shawl!!
God I hope Kate has a good fire prevention system going on in her house! Alas, I could only bring myself to knit ONE hat. Fun Fur sucks – but I hope it brings lots of smiles to lots of kids.
Do you think that much fun fur left unattended would be OK? I mean, it might mate or something. Like rabbits.
Wow, that is a LOT of fun fur! I’m sure the hats will be well appreciated.
P.S. Just saw in KnitPicks mag that you altered the almost argyle for kids! Can’t wait to download it! Matthew has been pestering me to make him some yellow socks.
That is the most gorgeous color of Karabella I’ve ever seen.

wait–I can’t see the stitch pattern. How come you’re so mean?
*MWAH*
Egads! That sorta makes my skin crawl – but I’m sure the kids will think they are fun, and that’s the main point. Nice to do something a little different now, I am sure.
Wow. That is a whole lotta fun. Congrats on finishing your very fuzzy journey.
You’re a saint to knit up all that wretched Fun Fur. Wow!
I have one skein of Karabella lace mohair (orange) that I’ve been wondering what to do with, so I will be following your progress here with particular interest!
girl! you are an over-achiever!
after nearly a year at the big box retailer working with “that stuff” and haveing to help others work with ‘that stuff”; well, i appluade you. and …ME Too! i saw the child size almost argyle in knit picks ; tried to send you a note of thanks for that and download it just as my computer slowed to a dead crawl. i’ll go now!
YOU ROCK!
I’m very sorry I forgot all about how we discussed collecting some at SnB. I really dropped the ball on this one.
That is a lot of fun fur!
OMG- that is a ton of fun fur.
I wouldn’t blame you if you wanted to set fire to the fun fur aisle at the nearest yarn store.
You really are a good woman to spend so much quality time with fun fur for a good cause. I am not sure I could have done it.
Way to sacrifice for the kids. Re: the shawl pattern: I can’t wait, I can’t wait, I can’t wait!
Nice romp with Fun Fur huh? Good cause though. You’re teasing with a shawl? Soon…when? Tomorrow I hope!
Wow, you more than did your part. When you mentioned how many hats arrived at Mini’s, it reminded me of the Star Trek tribbles… ugh! I want in on that mohair shawl pattern, I can tell already. The color you are using now is divine.
Gosh, all those furry, funny fur hats! Well done, they look great. I love the colour of that yarn you are using for the shawl and look forward to seeing it.
Well, I think you qualify for Most Patient Knitter Ever. All those Fun Fur hats? Man, I would sooner stick myself in the eye. A great cause, to be sure, but wow- that’s a lot of freakin’ Fun Fur.
